Twitter: Cowboys Tyler Smith on moving from LG to LT

THIS.
Plain and simple. On his worst day Smith is 5 times the tackle bust Guyton is.
Does that mean Smith has proven All Pro skins on the wall at left tackle?

No, but he ain't some injury prone false start machine fraud whose performance ceiling is league average at best that Guyton is.

At best.
There ain't no other guys in house.
So you either draft an actual plug n play pedigreed guy at LT and lose out on getting a top pick line backer that should be THE top off season concern, or you try Smith at LT and see what his performance ceiling is at tackle.

One or the other.
The defense is so ****** up.

But so is left tackle.
End of story.
Tyler was a holding penalty nightmare at OLT.

I know of one(ONE) example of an OG moving to OLT and playing well. And that just happens to be the best OL of all time, Larry Allen.

If this is supposed to work, someone provide me w/ a template of it working.

I sure hope they don't ruin him. I think a lot of people don't understand what a big move this is, and the huge chance they are taking.
I have never seen an example of a guard moving to tackle and doing really well with ONE exception
Now Martin did play RT for a couple of games and was decent but he certainly was not great.
That was pretty much an emergency

LA who I agree was the greatest OL in NFL history did it; but even he was a lot better at Guard then tackle

There are some days this year that Tyler Smith played worse than Tyler Guyton. Vegas was one.
Yeah, while that may have been so for one game maybe, if observing both players full body of work, there's no doubting Smiths extreme superiority and it's not that close.

Even with all these reports of Guyton's so called incremental progress he's nowhere near the player Smith is. And that includes as a tackle.

We actually do not know this.

Who knows, Guyton and his agent may be betching behind the scenes about him being forced to play a position he didn't play in college. He strikes me as that kind of player, especially since he knows his 5th option decision is around the corner.

Here's the ultimate question...

The biggest offseason defensive need for this team is 2 starting linebackers.

The biggest need on offense is a pedigreed plug n play starting left tackle.

So how ya wanna roll the dice?
Smith offers an alternative to wasting another high pick on an offensive tackle when not only 2 linebackers are critically needed but another edge, safety and even corner with Blands health issue now.

Guyton is NOT a left tackle option.
He is to the offense what Murray is to the defense.

He has to be replaced.
Period.

I think Dallas would be smart to bring both Hoffman & Bass back they both provide competent depth . Let Steele go if anything
Absolutely on Bass, probably Hoffman too. Bass could have been the starting RG eventually. It'll be interesting to see where his career ultimately goes.

Amen.

I've been saying this for a while now.

And big dog always tries to talk me out of it. I can see what he's thinking, I just disagree based on what I see.

I always thought Tyler Smith could make for a good tackle and we saw him there a lot in his rookie year where he had solid performances filling in for Tyron. I would think he's more equipped to handle the move now, but I do wonder about his ceiling. If he can be a top 10 LT in the league vs a top 5 guard I think it's a good move, but if he's just an average LT I rather keep him at guard.

For Guyton I like him too, he's just struggled with injuries and consistency. He played really well against Maxx Crosby with little help which makes me think he can develop into a good starter. He just has to keep himself healthy on the field, and get lower out of the snap to maintain better leverage more regularly.

I cant comfortably go into next year with Guyton as a starter after having watched all his snaps "when" healthy this year.

Others seem to see some kinda improvement not showing up on my All 22.

Now after Schotty and Solari sat him as a rook last year for poor performance, he now has Riley and Adams saying both his durability and performance are only as good to be as the team's swing tackle.
That's the professional oline coaches' opinions.

That's 2 years in a row.
That should clue everybody in.

Of course. I agree. But the claim was Smith on his worst day ever was better at LT than Guyton on his best day ever.

Obviously, one has been all pro and the other is in jeopardy, but I’ve always felt leading Smtih alone at LG is the smart move

My real point is on the priority of the left tackle position and Guyton should not be waited on for another year.

While all of these defensive holes need filling, left tackle is just as vital a need unfortunately.

he is much better than Thomas at LT ... just like Larry Allen and Zack Martin could swing outside and be bettter than the 2nd team option.

Smith is an elite guard -- he can be a decent LT ... but it won't be at the same level -- fine for a game or two but that should not be a permanent thing. No issue with moving him over if Guyton is out but, you don't want to screw with all pro performances

Hmmmm........Zack Martin felt the same way and frankly, I don't blame them. You are taking me away of my ALL Pro level position and asking me to master ANOTHER position at the same level
Agreed although Larry Allen didn’t have an issue but he was the greatest Olineman ever.

I bet that clown Stevie looked at this as a great opportunity to get a talented but cheap LT. I guarantee that was part of the conversation. So glad Smith laid the gauntlet down.

These morons are 54 million over the cap and they field a non competition team.

I don't like that attitude of me above the team. Winning comes first. Pro-bowl selections is not a team thing. And besides, what about making the pro-bowl as a LT? Is he afraid to compete?

Disagree. Guyton has all the skills to be a competent OLT. Muray does not.

Rolling the dice on moving your all pro OG is a very dangerous move.
