Will McClay to focus on more Power 5 schools!

No O lineman from Sonoma State

It’s an over simplification but sure Cee Dee Okla Pickens Ga Booker AL but then you have Smith Tulsa EZ Boston Coll so the scouts should look at big schools but you have players at the SMU’s Stanford Fl St etc. The Jones should let McClay and the scouts leave no stone unturned to return Dallas to glory

Yeah we have to debunk that myth, something clearly isn't working with our drafting
Why are people so black and white about things on this forum. It’s both true that the Cowboys have drafted very well over a period of time and that the last couple of drafts have been disappointing. Doesn’t necessarily always have to be terrible or fantastic. I think overall the cowboys are decent at drafting relative to the rest of the league but are in a bit of a dip right now and that shows in our declining talent and results.

Can't believe I'm agreeing with Stephen Jones but he's right. Colleges are doing the filtering process and most of the top small school prospects are taking NIL deals to showcase their talents on the biggest stages. It's smart to continue looking for diamonds, but resource allocations should shift towards prospect density.

the boys spend way too much time looking for the hidden gems that they often reach for cubic zirconium

What if they miss out on the next Larry Allen or Too Tall Jones?
You do realized how INCREDIBLY rare that is?
You spend too much of your resources doing that and you end up with too many Taco's and Mazi's because you do not spend as much time looking hard at them

All this means is he's sharing the time and organization spend on scouting. For those criticizing it, I'm sure it's not easy to watch film, interview players, talk to people who know, and everything else involved for thousands of players. Maybe (but who knows) we spend 20% of that manpower and time on small schools and 80% on power 5? I'm guessing all this means is they've reduced that manpower and time spent on smaller schools realizing the changing landscape with NIL money. There's only so much you can scout, and seems like a good call if that is truly the talent shift, which is a whole other thread. I always worry about adapting and change with our organization because it's essentially a family business, so good to hear.

It could be worst . Just look at the blind society leading the annual 4 win Jets Giants charity ball . Or Cleveland Arizona Tenn the rest of the floating garbage barge out at sea .

They buy the best players and those players face the best competition in practice and in games.

NIL money has changed college athletics just as planned. The rich get richer.

So, it makes sense

@Coogiguy03 Power 5 = SEC, ACC, Big 12, Big 10, PAC 12 (what’s left of it)
Exactly........like who did not see this coming?

When you start allowing schools to pay players money, in effect creating free agency, then it is only logical to assume that the schools with the most money will be able to sign the best players and that is indeed what we are seeing.

This is why pro sports leagues have salary caps, so the big market teams with more financial ability than small market teams cant just sign up all the top players. Problem with NIL, is there is no salary cap in place for schools, so they can pay anything they want to get the best players.

As a UT alumnus, I really like this because Texas has DEEP POCKETS, but I also recognize that it is bad in general for college football overall as it effectively eliminates the smaller and poorer schools being able to compete.

So you would rather take a less talented player from a power 5 school than a more talented player from a smaller school???

I honestly can't think of anything positive to say about that.
The point Cap Boy was making in the presser is that due to NIL, the most talented players are leaving for the power 5 schools, so you do not see really talented players at small schools anymore and that is why they are going to focus on just the power 5.
