NIL didnt exist back then.

I guarantee you that if a power 5 school told Demarcus Ware, "you enter the portal and transfer to our team, we will pay you $8 million a year in NIL money", he would not have said "no thanks, I'm good here at Troy".

That is what Stephen Jones was saying today at the presser, that those guys are no longer at the small schools anymore so there is no need to scout there anymore.

When you start allowing schools to pay players money, in effect creating free agency, then it is only logical to assume that the schools with the most money will be able to sign the best players and that is indeed what we are seeing.

This is why pro sports leagues have salary caps, so the big market teams with more financial ability than small market teams cant just sign up all the top players. Problem with NIL, is there is no salary cap in place for schools, so they can pay anything they want to get the best players.

As a UT alumnus, I really like this because Texas has DEEP POCKETS, but I also recognize that it is bad in general for college football overall as it effectively eliminates the smaller and poorer schools being able to compete.

Ok but why tell the rest of the league your draft plans? Oh because the Jones need that self worthiness feel.
 
Sounds as if he’s redirected the scouts. No more gas station taco’s in tiny town USA?
 
They have talked about this before. It is nothing new.
They will also still take a player from a smaller school if they feel they are a standout player like they did with Tyler Smith.

It is just that they will focus more on Power 4 conference schools now since the new pac is no longer considered a Power conference.

As much as some will complain about this teams draft record. It is a fact, not opinion, that they do better in the draft than most teams over the years.

The problem has been that they have depended more on the draft and did little to nothing in FA or trading over the years so anytime they would miss on one of the top picks it hurt more than for other teams.

I think they may have turned a corner this time around. Pickens and Q were not players they would have traded for in the past.

I hope they actually do get a couple of quality FAs this year in order to help off set the lack of day two picks that they normally rely on.

We will just have to see.
 
This is old news. 9+ years ago Dallas made the switch to leaning to P5 schools. There were articles back then on the push to P5 schools. Can't share the link though
 
Just focus on winning football programs and the players that lead those teams. Pick football players over athletes, and champions over individuals.

Well it's ironic because you posted the other post about Will Mcclay it kind of all comes together don't it Besides the fact that I don't think these scouts in the scouting department including Will Mcclay sits up at the star during the week during the season with not a whole lot to do I'm pretty sure they were doing this already their draft boards and players they want to start adding to that board should have already been being done they should have already attended all these games They should have had interviews with some of these coaches about the player and what not because it's more than what we think we see we all see what the top names are at some of these schools but they need to put together a more complete board for the Jones family to Utilize during the draft...

Includes undrafted free agents and players coming from the UFLI mean this scouting department's a year round job so I don't think they're just starting today I think that would be a huge mistake besides the fact that I think the NFL still sees this backwards i'm no expert but I think the draft needs to be before free agency..

Also think the draft being so late there's just too much overthinking changing waffling it it just it's just too much time to think Their scouting department should have already done their due diligence and now you go back and make the list smaller and you do more visits and you use to combine it to finalize your list but this should be a year round thing not the season's over I better start looking for my draft board..

Except when it comes to O-Line and offense. It's like he's bi-polar when it comes to defense vs offense.

He's gotten lucky on a few late rounders like Flournoy as well. Matter of fact, our offense is elite and it's not really debatable.

My main ***** about McClay is who's evaluating these DTs we bring in? Minus OSA, it's been a serious drought. We had to trade for Clark and QW to mask that our evaluations here are lacking to say the least.

We need some new LB and DT scout in Dallas and that's for sure.

Do we remain the dumbest team in the league? We just can’t shut the heck up. No this isn’t exactly giving away our draft board of course, but why would you even say this?
