I'm excited about this. Its a huge risk, given the state of the defence, but I love taking a swing at a young, smart coach with a lot to prove instead of hiring retread that keeps playing his greatest hits like Eberflus and Zimmer.

Plus, its something exciting to watch. What kind of defense will he run? What players does he prefer? How will the players develop? All totally new, making for a fun offseason

To me it's not a risk at all. They won't be worse than they were last year and they got a young guy with energy.

Very excited about this. I was dreading a Gannon hire. It obviously has the capacity to go really wrong considering Parker’s relative inexperience and the paucity of the talent on the roster but I genuinely think he is a talented coach with potential to be great rather than just a guy with a high floor and low ceiling.

Yeah I know people will make fun of it but we have to admit in years past this team never would’ve spent 20 million on Osa and trade for Clark and Quinnen. This is just not how a Jerry led front office has thought about the position.

Which is outright stupid considering DT may be the most important position on defense only behind maybe edge rusher.

But hey if Schottenheimer was able to finally talk sense into the Jones’ boys about DT. Then props to him.

No experienced DC is coming to work for Jerry. We get the guys who are glad to be offered a promotion.

I have to disagree here and I've been very critical of how this front office hired coaches in the past. This Parker hiring shows they are willing to deviate from how they have previously hired coordinators. This is the first time I can remember in many many years them hiring a young coach from outside the organization who has coordinator options elsewhere.

Most likely Jones and FO got intel that Leonard would be going to work with Harbaugh and getting paid 6Mil + and decided to move quickly or they would miss out on one of their top 3 candidates.

Man this guy is very inexperienced. I don't mind the move but it does seem like a pretty big risk.
Any of the other candidates would have been a safer choice.

Getting a Quinnen Williams type talent is extremely rare. You either have to have a top five pick in the draft when they are available or find a team dumb enough to trade them to you. And that again rarely happens.

If this is true, I guess it means Rapoport has more "insider" knowledge than Machota and Belt.

I think Belt knew they were impressed. Machota was just stupid.

In view of Leonhard likely going elsewhere — Parker is the next best hire IMO

I was not in the mood for another failed HC retread. Parker is young and hungry and will be able to put his stamp on this D for a few years.

Plus this weakens our biggest rival by not only taking a goof coach from their staff, but he gives us some insider info as well.

I’d say it means Leonhard to the Packers. He’s a native of Wisconsin and Barry Alvarez, Jake Ferguson’s grandad even said Leonhard needs to be the DC in GB.

Yes this is a good hire . It continues the influx of younger coaches and he’s had success with running secondaries which has been horrible in Dallas . I noticed when Harbaugh took over in NY just about the entire D staff was let go I hope Parker gets a big input on his staff .
