Of course he is going to say that. He is the commissioner responsible for them. But at least he could blame it on some of the rules and how difficult it is to officiate the rules as they are written - some of them.

That can be accomplished if they want total accuracy. You put microsensors all over the ball, digitally map the field with a running clock for timestamps, and program a computer system to note the furthest distance forward the ball went on the grid prior to the whistle, which would also need to be linked to the program to tell it to stop. Fumbles would be a complication but you can write a program for that too I'm guessing or use your timestamps for placement, etc.

Both, considering this is no more than the owner's mouthpiece. This is nothing but deference, trying to clean up the mess the owners have made by declaring how good they are.

Instead of looking at what he said, think about WHY he said it. That's what really matters. Owners made a mess w/ their game manipulations. Fans are noticing in droves now, so, Goodell has been told to start cleaing it up. That's all this is.

Wasn't that long ago when everyone had the attitude that manipulating(fixing) games/outcomes was laughable, and not possible. I was one of those, BTW. So, what changed my mind? Just way too much evidence.

I challenge anyone who still thinks they're not manipulating to pull up footage of the NO/Minny debacle and explain away how a defender crashes into the receiver as the ball is coming and nothing is called. This is a clear situation where the NFL got caught w/ their pants down.

It also cannot be denied there have been certain patterns of teams that always get the calls and teams that always don't.

The Chiefs, Eagles, and Patriots, in particular, seem to be the darlings of the officials. Things always go their way. The Eagles false start on tush pushes and it's never called. The Chiefs' right tackle lines up offside all game, every game and it gets called maybe twice a month.

Meanwhile there are a certain group of teams continually getting screwed. That list includes the Cowboys, Bills, Lions, Saints (ever since Bounty Gate), and, admittingly, the Giants.

And now add in the money part. Which players make the NFL the most money? Mahomes and Brady. Eagles are very popular.

Meanwhile, the Saints and Bills and Lions have been getting screwed since forever. Josh Allen has earned his way into a couple super bowls or so, and the refs took it away. Why? Because Mahomes makes them more money.

Start looking at everything through the money lense, and suddenly everything becomes crystal clear.

Yup. To get a mouthpiece that will do whatever is asked, you have to hire a POS. He's the perfect guy for this job. Gets paid a fortune simply to try and maintain the cleanup job and keep most fans believing that nothing is going on.

Oh I have no doubt that they like the controversy bad/missed calls bring. And when you only have 7 refs to govern 11 different matchups all over the field, you'll no doubt get missed/bad calls based on what a ref "thought" he saw or more. I know you believe in ref manipulation but this setup guarantees something controversial to talk about every year without even doing anything nefarious. That's all the NFL wants in this arena, IMO. They get it, people get mad ....... and still watch, maybe even moreso from casuals who want to know what the commotion is about.

Oh I have no doubt that they like the controversy bad/missed calls bring. And when you only have 7 refs to govern 11 different matchups all over the field, you'll no doubt get missed/bad calls based on what a ref "thought" he saw or more. I know you believe in ref manipulation but this setup guarantees something controversial to talk about every year without even doing anything nefarious. That's all the NFL wants in this arena, IMO. They get it, people get mad ....... and still watch, maybe even moreso from casuals who want to know what the commotion is about.

Well, that and close games. The NFL notice several years back that fans were turning off blowouts in droves. Sooo, what did they do about it? Started having the refs make calls to keep games close. To keep the fans tuned in. If you start watching for it, it will soon become blatantly obvious.

I don’t know of any proven evidence to support . No doubt calls can go against our fav teams and some of the greater athletes and teams appear to receive preferential treatment . But that’s true in all sports.

First of all Goodell represents the owners . And they have rewarded him handsomely for his leadership which has steered them thru turbulent times.

And my hunch is history going to reflect Goodell one of the best commissioner in NFL history ultimately ending with his induction in the HOF.
