He basically questions if Pickens has the intangibles of a #1 WR. Makes some good points ...of course by comparing him to Michael.

When I look at Pickens on the field I don't see a top-5-NFL receiver, but I do see a receiver who makes a lot of plays and catches the ball better than any other receiver on the Cowboys.

He may not be the #1 receiver for every team out there because a few teams have all-around great receivers, but when it comes to making big plays and catching the ball, he does that really well.

If I had to pick between them and I needed a Cowboys receiver for a whole game, I would choose Lamb (assuming he gets the drop problem fixed), but if I needed a receiver on a game winning drive, I would choose Pickens.

To be clear, that's not bashing either receiver for anything (other than Lamb for the drops of course), but simply saying both receivers complement each other and the team quite well.

A question I have been throwing around in my head lately and honestly, last year Lamb would have been a slam dunk but now I am not sure. Two issues I have with Lamb, even as good as he is .........drops as you mentioned and his tendency to pout like 14 yo when things are NOT going well for the team.

As for Pickens .......I see a player who gives me Dez and Michael Irvin vibes on the field. Every ball is his and he wanna score after every catch.

Kind of a BS take. While those are good points of how a great WR SHOULD act, the simple fact is many if not all #1s have some of those flaws. There are no perfect football players. CeeDee has been accused of many of those exact things as have other great WRs. Lord knows Irvin had flaws and one could say a #1 RB wouldn't hold out and cost his team a couple games to start the year and a #1 RB should have elite speed and he shouldn't lose 6 fumbles in one season and 5 in another. You are evaluated based on the total package, not your weaknesses and It's the Total package that determines your worth and Pickens is a #1 when taking all of his plusses and minuses into account.

That's a great distinction and I agree.

Pickens played like a number 1 last year, especially while Lamb was out early in the season.

That three game stretch against the Lions, Chargers, and Vikings looked like outlier performances. I respect Emmitt but I don't totally agree with him here.

In Cowboys championship years we had two top receivers. We didn’t call them WR 1 or WR 2. They both were top receivers and complimented each other.

Drew Pearson and Tony Hill
Michael Irvin and Alvin Harper

Pickens may have talent that is close to WR1 but he has baggage which isn’t. And we saw that in a couple games.

We can’t pay him WR1 market price but he is deserving of a substantial deal. But Id be cautious. I’d like to see a short term deal like 2 years.
