Schefter: Cowboys will put franchise tag on Pickens

Pickens is probably the number 1 free agent that would be available in free agency so yeah he is not gonna respond well to getting $28 million guaranteed compared to getting over $100 million in the open market. We all would be pissed at that.
He was basically only worth a 3rd round pick last year. Yea we threw in a 5th in 2027 too.

But the Cowboys taking a chance on him truly has benefitted Pickens. And he should show some appreciation for such.

No reason to become hostile cause we aren’t bellying up out of the gate. And with his history it would serve him well not to have an attitude and just let this play out .

The thing that would piss me off is not the tag itself. It's that they won't reach out to start negotiations.

going into week 4, he had like 150 yards receiving. why would anyone be offering $30M\year at that time? He only had 5 games out of 17 with over 100 yards.

the entire point of signing him was to get a year long look at him. it was never on the radar to offer him a contract during the season.
It was when he ripped it up during Lamb's absence. Maybe it wasn't week 4. I don't know. I am trying to forget the season.

Parsons was never accused of doggin' it or not playing hard, as mentioned in your post
I'm talking about contract negotiations. We won't know what would have happened because Jerry got mad and traded him. I know players don't like being tagged. Jerry needs to negotiate with his agent and try to get a deal done. If not he needs to let him go because we don't need another distraction all season.

Inevitable. Team has no intentions of attempting to sign a contract with him.

My hope is we trade him to a team that can break the bank for him. He's arguably a better prospect than any of the WRs in this draft, and not that much older, so we should be able to get a good return.

He's part of Jerry's "bust the budget"IMO ........
I may have lost my mind but it sure seems like Jerry has changed a bit. It feels like he might do what it takes to build a competitive roster.maybe he had a grim reaper dream lili don’t know if it can be done in one off season but if they get this draft right and add a couple of actual players in FA we could be significantly better

LOL, LOL ......I said this to a friend of mine but Jerry ain't been the same since Parsons was traded. Don't know what it is but he ain't the same.....I believe that (lol).

Why not? The Eagles did it in one year. They signed Zach Baun, who was a low-tier free agent, and turned him into a Pro Bowler. You don’t need top stars on defense—just better coaching.
Smith doesn’t make more than $30 million, and they had both WRs for two seasons prior to Barkley, who really put them over the top. You do need studs on defense. They fixed their secondary as well before the SB run.

During their SB run, the Eagles understood (Kellen Moore really) how important running the football was, even when paying your QB well over $30 million. The Cowboys will never adopt this philosophy with Prescott. Their philosophy is, “We’re paying Dak $60 million, so we need to be a passing team.” They don’t value RB or TE either.

George has made almost $13.5 million over his first 4 seasons combined. If he gets tagged but not signed long term he's going to make around $28 million for one season. More than doubling his rookie contract.

Demarcus Lawrence was also a 2nd round pick who was franchised tagged for his 5th season. He made almost $10 million for his 4 yr rookie contract and then another $17 million on his franchise tag. Then he got I believe 3 more contracts since then and has made $145.5 million for his career. (Demarcus has mentioned that during his 3rd season he actually ran out of money - which was his fault.)

George is going to be alright.

.

the player either plays on the one year tag or sits out and doesn’t get paid at all.

The player pretty much has no power in this situation

Both parties have until mid July to work out a real contract.
You do know Pickens has the most powerful agent in the NFL. David is a better agent than France. I guarantee you Pickens is not playing on the 1 year tag. The Cowboys could have done the same to Parsons and all of a sudden his back hurt. Who was Parsons agent by the way? Glazer, the top insider in the NFL, said he has no idea what is going to happen. The pressure is on the Cowboys.

That doesn’t mean that Jerry won’t do his dirt.

He’s already setting it up saying how badly GP wants to he here and how much he loves his teammates and coaches.

That’s just so Jerry can later say “well, I’m with the fans on this one. I really thought he wanted to be a Cowboy”, as he offers him well under market value.

GP is the number one free agent in the NFL and we have him on our team, every year we talk about how we want the Cowboys to go get a star free agent.

Now, we’re going to see how much Jerry, and the fans, actually mean it.
Jerry and the stooges. They are about to pay big money to a bunch of JAGs to improve the horrid defense because they can’t draft in rounds 2 thru 5.

You dont know that and not sure how you can say they have no intentions of attempting to sign him

he shouldn't be pissed though. he would have no issues exercising his contractual rights. he should understand the team is doing the same. disappointed or frustrated would be more appropriate.

if he wants to be pissed at anyone, he should start in the mirror. to the best of my knowledge the only person that has kept him from already having a long term contract is him.
Why would he look in the mirror. Pickens did his job last season. 2nd team all pro. His agent is gonna take care of him like Parsons, Love, Watson, ect. David is number 1 agent in the NFL.

He was a top 5 receiver in the league last season. 2nd team all pro. Won numerous games for a bad Cowboys team. You seem to forget that.

This is gonna piss the kid off and he is gonna pout ........ I have seen this circus act before.

Yeah Jerry is the best guy to reach out to. Ask Micah. You Jerry lovers are comical. The owner and his family has made 15 billion dollars plus off of this fan base and has done nothing for 30 years but the majority still defends him.
