Trade value for Pickens might not be what people are expecting

I get that Bob but I think what some are saying .........
*** Top defenses are built on scheme and leadership just as much as talent. (See, Seahawks, Broncos, Pats, Bears )
*** Signing Pickens does not prevent adding 4-5 quality defensive players ( 2 draft picks and 3 free agents)
*** I'm sorry the dude went from a 3rd round value no one else wanted to an All-Pro. I am not getting rid of that, not yet, at least. Ask me after next season.......Hell, I may wanna KEEP Pickens and trade Lamb.
 
Why do so many people feel the need to say “period” after a statement? Is your thought definitive? No, it’s not. Period.
 
Since he's already stated that he wants market value, that means his trade value just plummeted.
 
I’ve been trying to tell people this for weeks. Teams will pay $30M for a WR 1 or they will use a 1st round pick to (maybe) acquire1. The odds of a team willing to do both are pretty low.
And then factor in Pickens’ personality issues that will turn off some teams all together…

They are weakening their best strength for just cap space, but many fail to realize they still would need to replace Pickens. As you said, who are you replacing him with and at what cost? Think many forget how their offense performed before Pickens arrival, it was average at best. Pickens not only opens up the passing game but also helps the team run the football

Only way to pay Pickens his 30 mil would be to end load the contract.

We are one of the very few teams in the NFL who doesn't realize that paying WRs huge money keeps you out of the super bowl. We should have meetings every year w/ Cincy and Minnesota so we can have a little crying session as to why our D isn't good enough and boast on how much we paid our WRs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Exactly! The only way you trade him with a probability of maintaining a high level offense is taking a WR at 12. And just being forced to do that robs your defense. No Downs, no McCoy, no Delane, no Styles. Even if you get a late 1st for Pickens, you would filling defensive holes at draft positions with an exponentially higher bust rate.

You might take a WR at 20, but Tate is gone (and he might not be available at 12) and Tyson and Lemon are most likely gone. Boston could even go before 20

The Eagles paid there WR's top money and won a Super Bowl. Its not much of an anchor cap wise

You only need one GM or owner to be desperate enough. But he's probably right teams aren't going to form a line to give a premium pick and a massive contract to a head case/ticking time bomb.

You also are assuming a draft pick can replace his loss production.

Yes. Its betting on hope. And if you truly want to contend, you dont bet on hope at key positions.

It's another reason why we have both advocated for a guy like Herbig. You can draft a guy high of course. But you cant count on production. Its very hard to win in the NFL without production from your WR's, DE's, DT's CB's and LT.

Another thing that hurt NE during the Super Bowl was that their WR's couldnt win. Maye had to either check down or force passes because their WR's couldnt win matchups. There inability to block was the biggest reason they lost, but the inability to create from the skill players really hurt their chances to compensate and stay competitive

IF the NE WRs had been able to come up with just a couple of big plays before the 4th, a lot would have changed in that game

They dont have to agree to a extension to do a trade, however Pickens does have to agree to sign the tender
