Trade value for Pickens might not be what people are expecting

If Pickens were in this year’s draft, he would be either the first or second receiver off the board. So a second-rounder is a big, fat no.
How good would this be, Pickens signs a contract extension with Dallas at 2nd round tender and balls out. If Pickens were to do this let's say a 3-year extension with the Cowboys and played well during that stretch, and behaved well during that stretch, his next contract would reset the market at wide receiver and Pickens would only be 28 years old. It would be interesting if the agent can't get what he wants in a deal for Pickens.

From where?

They didn't. That article says "Tyler Sullivan of CBS Sports presented a trade proposal that would have Seattle send their 32nd and 64th picks to land superstar pass rusher Maxx Crosby."
That's funny.

I believe that if we gave him an offer of 32 to 33 million just below Lamb's contract he might take it. That is better than him playing on the tag putting up similar numbers, and then his asking price would be 38 to 40 million.

I hope they do. There are a couple teams with really good QBs that need a good WR.
A first round pick this year and another one next year would be hard to pass up but if Dallas can't get that for Pickens, then extent him for less than Lambs contract and keep this offense lethal.

His mental antics still draw some caution. We even saw some evidence of such.

I’d take a 2nd and run. Throw in a mid to later pick to sweeten deal.
That caution that you speak of should keep his price down, I can see both sides of this. Dallas is a hell of an offense with Pickens in the lineup, the Detroit game was interesting though to say the least, Pickens was being Dowdle covered with Lamb out and seemed to have quit giving effort. Pickens seemed to ball out in the other 16 games, however. It will be interesting to see how it works out.

Yikes!!! You willing to settle on a 2nd best case or possibly just a 3rd and 4th? I'm not!

Pickens can be a #1 WR on most teams. The Cowboys got him at a lower value due to the Steelers wanting to part ways.
Pickens has a 1st round value with the Cowboys. ( He was one of the top WR in the league last season + he's only 24)

If he hadn’t been tagged, he would have been the top free agent on the market.

He creates mismatches that are hard to account for. When you have to double-team him on the outside, that’s one fewer defender in the box, allowing the run game to open up.

Easily a first-round pick, possibly two first-rounders. The Cowboys would be crazy to ask for anything less.
I think a 1 & 3 or 1 & 4 is his true value.

His value is what another team is willing to pay. Bills are desperate for a true #1 so they will be willing to pay more. Same possibly with KC but others maybe offer less.

For me, signing him makes our offense lethal so I'm for resigning him.

Maybe that’s because generational edge rushers are harder to find than good WRs.
Yep

Much easier to find WR in draft.

And we should be drafting our WR2 every 4-5 years. Saves ton of Cap space. Same for RB

Would you still be cool with just a #1? I think I would. I'm hesitant about taking a #2 because of the value (obviously), but moreso we suck at drafting in the 2nd round.

Just a 1?

Man I just don’t think I would trade him unless it’s for an already proven player.

He puts our offense over the top.

Another rookie defender isn’t going to get us closer to a title.

860 pts on the draftek chart and the Cowboys #20 pick is 850 pts.

If that's true, how is he worth a CeeDee contract?
He's not. Rest of the league not blind on this kid's immaturity and inconsistency. Great talent no doubt, but not someone you invest your cap or 1st rounder in. Apparently only Jerry seems to think so.

Then what do you do about the D?

Well, we don't sacrifice the offense to fix the defense. We can certainly fix the defense through good coaching, the draft, and free agency. If we hit on the draft and Jerry spends a little in free agency, this defense can be fixed.

Philadelphia, New England, and even the Seahawks were able to fix their defenses within a season or two. We just need to do what a smart GM would do.

I’m stunned at how many of you think he could be traded for multiple premium picks.

He is a great player, but the contract situation limits the value.

I mean, is he not more valuable with a year left on his rookie deal than now? Of course, and that cost was a third.

I would like to retain him, but if he can fetch even a first, and the savings can be spent elsewhere, sign me up, but it’s not going to happen.
