It’s not the same situation.
Prescott is still performing at a high level, and his team isn’t looking for a way out. Sure, some might say he’s overpaid, but haters will hate, especially when other teams have started cutting players, moving on, and eating dead cap.
Look at Russell Wilson—Denver got lucky hitting on their new quarterback, but that kind of gamble doesn’t usually work. They were in cap hell and took the hit. Who trades all those assets for an older quarterback, then immediately hands them a massive contract before they’ve played a single down in that system? The Watson and Wilson deals were terrible, and it’s surprising Cleveland didn’t cut Watson.
Prescott isn’t in the same conversation, in my opinion. He just had a great year, arguably a top-five MVP candidate, maybe higher, and was in the MVP discussion all season. It’s not his fault the defense collapsed week after week, giving up leads as soon as they got them. There are definitely worse deals and situations out there.
Just look at teams like the Vikings, who didn’t keep Sam Darnold—or maybe Daniel Jones was there—and instead went with rookie JJ McCarthy in his second year, who didn’t play very well.
There are other teams that don't even have a quarterback, so yeah, I don't know what the complaints are, who cares how much money he's making other teams have made concessions not that big a difference between 55 and 60 when you're building a team.
It Starts at QB and you need A QB, this is a two-year window, I'm sure Jerry will be moving on from Prescott after the next two seasons.
We will see but big things are going to happen for this whole entire team follow big contracts probably around 28.
Great post. You just gave some very good examples that proves Dak's contract is nowhere near the worst quarterback contract in the NFL.
Sometimes I wonder what people are watching or what's their understanding of how football operates.
