Dak tells Pickens to bet on himself

It’s not the same situation.

Prescott is still performing at a high level, and his team isn’t looking for a way out. Sure, some might say he’s overpaid, but haters will hate, especially when other teams have started cutting players, moving on, and eating dead cap.

Look at Russell Wilson—Denver got lucky hitting on their new quarterback, but that kind of gamble doesn’t usually work. They were in cap hell and took the hit. Who trades all those assets for an older quarterback, then immediately hands them a massive contract before they’ve played a single down in that system? The Watson and Wilson deals were terrible, and it’s surprising Cleveland didn’t cut Watson.

Prescott isn’t in the same conversation, in my opinion. He just had a great year, arguably a top-five MVP candidate, maybe higher, and was in the MVP discussion all season. It’s not his fault the defense collapsed week after week, giving up leads as soon as they got them. There are definitely worse deals and situations out there.

Just look at teams like the Vikings, who didn’t keep Sam Darnold—or maybe Daniel Jones was there—and instead went with rookie JJ McCarthy in his second year, who didn’t play very well.

There are other teams that don't even have a quarterback, so yeah, I don't know what the complaints are, who cares how much money he's making other teams have made concessions not that big a difference between 55 and 60 when you're building a team.

It Starts at QB and you need A QB, this is a two-year window, I'm sure Jerry will be moving on from Prescott after the next two seasons.

We will see but big things are going to happen for this whole entire team follow big contracts probably around 28.

Great post. You just gave some very good examples that proves Dak's contract is nowhere near the worst quarterback contract in the NFL.

Sometimes I wonder what people are watching or what's their understanding of how football operates.

What is exactly a high level when you're just having great stats but not winning big

I’ve never heard thst
Jerry said it in his hour long combine interview from his bus.

He said he met with Pickens to tell him they were staffing him but also said they didn’t discuss any negotiations

He went on to say that not only has he never met gaps agents he’s never even spoken to him.

I’m betting they sign him

What he was paid and his cap hit are not the same thing. He is not overpaid, but as the keep kicking the can down the road it will appear that he is because of his cap hit when it comes due eventually.

Betting on himself would be signing now and then cashing in again in 3 years, imo.

All that Pickens can do on the tag is lose leverage. Sign your ~4x$150m deal now and then get your extension after year three or go UFA at age 29 to get your second $150m+ deal.

Wrong! Did Dak lose any leverage by signing his multiple tags? Why do you think the real GMs seldom use the tag? Because it boxes them in. If Pickens signs and plays well (betting on himself), he pockets almost 29 million which is fully guaranteed. Then his price goes up even more next year and entices even more teams to bid. Using the tag hurts Dallas with a larger cap hit than a new contract, and it puts them in the exact same situation next year.

There’s no rush for Pickens to sign as they will still try to get a deal done after free agency and the draft, but he will sign. Once he signs, he can fully participate in everything knowing any injury and he still gets his money, even if they are still negotiating this summer.

You just like trolling don't you you know the answer to that prescott had a great year Doesn't fall at his feet when your record is bad it's not always on the quarterback Were you blind or you again just trolling?

Anybody wanna go over this for somebody who's apparently going through memory issues someone explained to Coog what happened last year and why we didn't make the playoffs..

1.Matt Eberflus
2.Injuires
3. Defense
4.Defense
5.Matt Eberflus
6. Ineffective special teams. Sometimes just bad.
8.ST coach
9.Horrible Tackle play All those penalties and ineffectiveness blocking especially in the red zone couldn't block long enough to get more points scored even though it wouldn't see the top five reasons to why that probably wouldn't have mattered...

Oh wait,

maybe I should add 10,

The offense couldn't score 35 to 40 points a game, so they lost, Yep, that must be the quarterback issue, not anything else nothing to see here, definitely the quarterback, because he should have been able to score 40 points every game,

I mean that is how the game set up right, It's all on the offense you shouldn't even worry about defense, coaching, or special teams..

That make you happy I finally got to the offense Yep we should blame the quarterback for not being able to score 35 to 40 points every game I mean damn right if we could have just scored 43 more times we probably would have made the playoffs Oh we did give up 40 plus on defense in the playoffs oh that's right because see the first eight reasons..

So there not to leave out the quarterback I'll put him as the 10th reason we didn't succeed last year.. that Make you happy?

Poor coog..

I do hope you get to feeling better Get your memory back you should take multivitamin every day maybe up the B 12...

The same thing can be said about Herbert, Burrows, Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson, etc.

Apparently the rest of the team is needed to play at a high level as well. One player won't do it.
23 and 19 points given up by the Dallas defense in the Niners' playoff games. The quarterback is paid the most money for a reason: he touches the ball every play, and has the most responsibilities regarding preparation. When your top guy doesn't perform, and other aspects of the team play WELL ENOUGH to win, the blame shifts to the QB.

They always get Dak at charity events...what's he supposed to say?
"I love George and what he brings to the table, but I'll leave all of the money/contract negotiations to him and his agent. Not really my place to say but I'm hopeful they get things worked out."

I didn't listen to any of the interview to see the lead-up to the questions asked, so I have reserved being critical for now, lol

Absolutely wrong in this case. With that response, you were trolling—that’s the very definition of it.

You know how hot a topic Prescott is, then you ask what “high level” means, as if you didn’t watch him play. You knew exactly what you were doing when you made that statement...:popcorn:

He played at a high level; when you’re in the MVP conversation, that’s high level. He can’t control the rest of the team—can’t make the tackles block longer, stop receivers from running bad routes or dropping passes, or catch the ball for them. There were games where balls were pulled out of players’ hands and counted as interceptions, yet he had very few picks this year, with a great touchdown-to-interception ratio. That equals high level.

He can’t make the defense, special teams, play calls, or execution better, but at his position, individually, he played at a high level. That’s a fact. We both know it.

You chose to troll because we all know he was top five at his position all year, maybe even top three in other stats. Prescott had one of the best years of his career in Year 10, which is absolutely high level.

When you’re top five all year at your position, you’re playing at a high level.

Not many QBs would have won in Dallas the past two years with the defense as bad as it was. Even the greatest QB of the current era, Patrick Mahomes, was only 6-8 last year on a flawed roster.

Dak is still performing at a high level. He was good enough in every game last year to win except the road games at Chicago and Denver.

Players at any position can perform at an elite level and not win. We've seen it through the years (Barry Sanders, Calvin Johnson, Larry Fitzgerald, Matthew Stafford when in Detroit, and so on).

1 of those names has played in a super bowl, and 2 others have at least played in AFCCG's...

Feel free to enjoy your Dak stats, but most fans want more,

Of course I want more just like any other fan, but the comment i responded to was about a quarterback who isn't "winning big". Winning big is winning a Superbowl, and last time I checked, none of those quarterbacks have won a Superbowl.

So feel free to consider just PLAYING in a CCG or Superbowl "winning big" but most fans want more like winning the Superbowl.

And everything you've intelligently stated is absolutely true, you have no argument from me there.

But I noticed something that happened once again when talking about the 49ers playoff games.

In that first 49ers playoff game, the Cowboys committed a playoff record, 14 penalties. We committed that many penalties playing against a number one ranked 49ers defense. No team in NFL history has ever been able to win a playoff after committing 14 penalties. So I have two quick questions for you.....

1. If no other quarterback OR team in NFL history has ever won a playoff game after committing a league playoff record amount of penalties in a playoff game, why was Dak and/or the Dallas Cowboys expected to?

2. Why when people here bring up the Cowboys first 49ers playoff loss, they conveniently leave out the fact that we committed a league playoff record 14 penalties as if that didn't greatly affect the game and game plans?
