Gary took a pay cut

It wasn't just Micah. Wyatt also went down.
There was nobody else left to double team and roll protection to other than Gary!
Again, Gary disappeared long before the injuries. It's a good excuse until you look into it.

I don't really understand why people contextualize this as a paycut. His AAV technically drops, but he gets a second year.

He went from $0 to $16m guaranteed.
This year a least was “guaranteed”. There’s a zero percent chance he doesn’t make the team even if he were free.

They gave up a 4th rounder for a guy who was going to be released, in order to save a few bucks. SJ talked in one interview how draft picks are precious 4th round and higher, that they don't get cheap til you get to the 5th round. Then he and the old man throw 4th rounders out with the garbage.

The clowns in charge said they were "busting the budget", they're 19th in FA spending. Their big $ move is trading for a guy who's been, at best, a slightly above average player the last few years. Slightly above average is better than what we had last year, but it's far from busting any budget.
A "few buck," like 10+ million per year on the cap? Im fine with trading a 4th to guarantee I get my player, and don't enter into a bidding war.

I wasnt referring to going all in or budget busting either. I was only commenting on Gary. We had a hole and filled it with an above average pass rusher and good to great run defender. I agree we need to do more, but I cant justifiably crap on this move.

Gary is apparently not a gambler. He would rather have 13M in his pocket today than shove off into the great unknown of free agency.
And it very well could be that simple so I don't immediately dismiss what you're saying....its just seems like a low amount for Gary to settle on if he does view himself as a $20m type of player on the open market.

Now we need to restructure Q. Williams, sign Aubrey and Pickens, and trade for a linebacker and or edge.
Yes...It's down to 18.8 million today. Not sure if everything is "in" yet after the signings. Typically around 15 million for the draft class and any undrafteds. So you need more money if you are going to play more in FA pre and post draft. Quinnen is the only big contract left that is prudent to restructure. After that it's only the deals with Pickens and Aubrey that will bring more cap relief (up to 15 million).

Well, it seems that he doesn't think he could get that much gauranteed, or why would be taking less and pave the way for his trade to Dallas? He could have nuked this trade by simply refusing to negotiate. Everything ive read points to security. He preferred to take the Cowboys signing bonus than go into the uncertain waters of free agency as a declining player. He has a history of taking less in GB as well when he signed his extention in 2023.

Thats great value the new contract. If we get an edge in round one we'd have that edge, Gary, And Eze under contract for super cheap, and Kenny and Quinnens contracts arent bad either. Could get a lot of production at a great value.

Its wild how many people dislike this move. Years of disappointment have made this fanbase jaded. While id still like to see more and it's draft dependant weve had a really solid off season imo.
It’s not that it’s a “bad” move…it just feels the same as before…..players that aren’t studs. Clowney had more sacks last year, in 3 less games….so is it an improvement, or just more average player signing like we do every year?

You guys keep bringing up Clowney but you guys do know he had like 3 sacks the last game of the season? He dominated a porous Giants offense.

Yeah, but total it was still more than Gary in 3 less games. Gary’s 7.5 sacks, his sack history just isn’t impressive….we need more production with pass rushing. Maybe he will prove us wrong, we will see.

Not that wild to me. He was completely nonexistent the 2nd half of the season last year to the point the coaches in Green Bay began to question his effort.

And he's essentially replacing a player in Clowney who just played better and better as the year went on. 8.5 sacks and not even on the team in September.
To be fair... 3 of those came in the last game.

I didn’t see Gary play so im not saying what he is or isn’t. I’m just saying Clowney was a pleasant surprise people keep talking about his sacks like 3 weren’t given to him. I like him and would be for bringing him back.

I can’t speak on Gary. Suppose to be good against the run and bring solid pressure. Only saw him about 3 times.

....we got something building here. Gonna be really interesting 26'.

Just hoping Risen and Rockport get longer contracts as well. ;)>.

pretty sure playing next to KC and Big Q along with getting coached from CP was a big factor in taking a paycut.
