If we got a 1st and a 3rd for Pickens

Thank you for bringing this up, life goes on without Pickens being here. Some on here act like it's Pickens or nothing!!! He can be replaced for a younger talent who we hope will develop into something decent or better!

As far as trade compensation, I think we wait and see what a possible AJ Brown trade gets in terms of compensation. But if he is traded, will there be anymore teams out there willing to give up a first for him????

If all else fails, what about a 2 this year, and a 2 that can turn into a 1st round pick in 2027????????
AJ Brown probably isn't going to be traded before the draft. So at least for the draft we won't really know what Brown might command in draft compensation. He's a post June 1 I think. So the Eagles would get compensation in 2027.

I'm not of the opinion that Pickens should be traded. The teams in the NFC West and North are much stronger than they were in 2023. And the last three times the Cowboys were knocked out? 49ers and Packers...NFC West and North. Now you have Detroit and Chicago (who are ascending) to deal with. The Rams have risen, along with the Seahawks. The 49ers are reloading with Mike Evans. So the offense you had in 2023 is going to be less than sufficient in 2026 imo...UNLESS the defense rebounds in a BIG way.

The Cowboys really missed their window...2021-23. The NFC is now a far more hostile place for them.

Finally...as much as I think Prescott has improved, I am leery of what happened at San Francisco in the 2022 playoffs. Reduced to Lamb as the only option. Forcing the ball to him unwisely and committing key turnovers that flipped the game on its head.

Just roll with Pickens IMO. Offense was fun to watch. Yeah, it wasn't always perfect, but that's the way it goes in the NFL. You're going to have your bad games......that's where you want even a competent defense.
I agree with the just roll with Pickens part. If they can't contend may as well be entertained. Go Cowboys!

“Stacking 2 top paid WRs works nowhere bc you can't build the roster depth required to compete with so much cap space going to WR”

This is what you said. Yes, the Eagles did win the SB with 2 top paid WRs and they were able to build a roster while paying those two WRs, including the ability to pay Saquon Barkley. You just have to be good at drafting, signing the “right” free agents, and have a good coaching staff. Dallas is OK at drafting. They fail miserably in free agency most of the time (including internal free agents), and they make questionable decisions when it comes to coaches.

If Dallas trades Pickens for a 1st and 3rd pick do you really think they are closer to winning a SB. Jerry could use that first round pick to choose the next Mazi Smith, Tyler Guyton, or Taco Charlton. Who knows what they get with the 3rd round pick. Trading a bona fide stud WR for Jerry taking two swings in the dark doesn’t excite me.

Do you look things up or just have hot opinions? AJ and Devonte combined for a 25M cap hit in 2025 when they won the super bowl. If you want to look a contract value, AJ and Devonte' had the 11th and 17th ranked contract values at WR. Thats not even close to what Dallas is looking at if they resign Pickens to a longer deal. Dallas already has the 3rd highest paid WR and Pickens isn't looking for less. So, try your math again.

The easily could be with restructures and if Pickens was resigned his cap hit the first couple years would be low.

The point is that Philly is NOT paying top of the market contracts to its WRs, and nobody has ever considered Devonte Smith a legit #1. He's a nice #2 on a reasonable contract. The only team that is trying to do what we are doing at WR is Cincy and i'm pretty sure they don't know what they are doing either.
I think the combined AAV of Smith and Brown is about 57 million/yr. But the cap issues associated with Pickens really don't come into play until three years from now. The restructures in the interim would reduce his salary to league minimum if the Cowboys desire. Where it gets tricky is years 3 and 4...where I expect the Cowboys to add void years to reduce the impact on cap space. Moreover, four years from now the cap ceiling might be 80 - 100 million higher than it is now. I don't see signing Pickens as a cause for alarm...if the contract is done right...possibly with an escape clause.

Doesn't matter, it was still something like $9-10m.

I'm sorry what cap space does Dallas not have that they can't pay 2 WRs? They don't pay anybody.

Cowboys fans want cap space just for the sake of having it. It's really stupid.

I think part of it is this:

The draft is fun. It’s fun to follow the draft. watching the draft is a ton of fun. I love watching the draft. So im not knocking it. Draft weekend is one of my favorites.

I think some cowboys fans have been conditioned to where they enjoy the draft more than the actual games. Conditioned this way because of all the years of failure and loss during the season.

So some have been conditioned to want the draft picks rather than keep the really good players who actually help win on Sunday.

Just a theory.

Would the offense be better or worse if we used the 1st from Pickens to draft a top Left Tackle and a 3rd on the best available WR?

Then we could still use our other 2 first on defense.
You would have to draft a WR with the pick.....we need two really good WR's

Probably

It's also just the draw to a new shiny thing lol

They'd have to be nuts not to take a 1st and 3rd for Pickens, but who would offer that much for him? I think the best they can expect is a 2nd.

Of course the offense would suffer not having a second top tier WR. But if they fix the LT spot and get some defensive help, the team will win more games and that is the bottom line. They are going nowhere with a historically bad defense no matter how many tier 1 WRs they send out there.

NO! stop trying to trade away a difference maker. CeeDee & Pickens make this offense lethal

With washed waddle going for a 1 and a 3 GP should be worth 2-1's and a 2.

If a team is inclined to acquire a talented, albeit expensive, wide receiver it may be prudent to wait until after June 1 and make a run at Brown. He’ll cost less in compensation than Pickens, and could probably be had for, at best, a couple of 2nds in 2027 & 2028. Likely not even that. And his contract has an out after the 2027 season.

Certainly no team is trading significant draft capital for Pickens in addition to having to sign him to a $35 million AAV deal with massive guarantees.

Who cares.

The best thing this team could do long term is make that trade. The defense as it stands right now isnt better. So we will get a lot of points and concede a lot of points.

Getting 3 first rounders on D this year would let them upgrade every level with young talent. Then when they are picking in the top 15 again next year you grab a WR without the issues Pickens has. The WR class in 2027 is absolutely stacked.
