Nick Harris: FO considering LBers AL-Shaair and Brooks

For Brooks you give up the 3rd you got for OSA and don't look back and then get him signed long term. With the recent secondary/Safety signings you add Brooks and the 2 first round picks you have transformed you D.
THIS. I mean, exactly this.
Get Brooks or Al-Shair then draft another LB and an edge with the first 2 picks and you will see my optimistic side begin to show. All that would be left is signing a vet left tackle.

BUT PLEASE DO THIS JERRY!

I would be into it as long as Brooks is ready to agree to a long term extension. I need him
On more than a one year deal.
I think it might be more like the Pickens deal because coming off a first-team All-Pro season, Brooks is liable to want to be paid like the top linebacker in the league, and we're not going to do that. I could see them seeing how he does this year and then tagging him. Technically, we could tag him a couple of times to retain his rights.

Not for a 3rd round pick.
Especially if the last year of his contract. They would need to renegotiate it. So now knowing this, not even for a 4th.

Maybe a 5th since he would be another 1 year rental.
People who aren’t willing to make changes like this for third, fourth, or fifth round draft pick trades, should not be allowed to comment when the team does bad, and when the draft picks bust!!!

I get that G, but I've got to give him a new contract or risk losing him after the 2026 season. I will go not higher than a 3rd.......
Can tag him twice, so there's no danger there really. But since we don't have a second anyway, I'd go as high as our third and a fifth next year. Someone mentioned offering Bass and a fifth, and I think that would be a good offer, too.

I don't mind using the third this year because it takes linebacker off our list of needs while we get an All-Pro to fill that need. We can then focus on the secondary and DL/DE spots with those first two picks.

I mean, if you asked me which I'd rather do spend a first-rounder on a linebacker who may be good or spend a third and fifth on a linebacker who has been good and was a first-team All-Pro last year, I'd choose the second choice every time.

So the questions remain do they stick with Overshown and his durability issues as the only capable vet LB?

OR sign one so as not to make linebacker such a "must be a homerun" pick type of pressure...?

And if choosing to sign one, at what cost?

Hint: Some real GM'ing needs to take place here.
Hope we've got the right man for the job, lol.
I have a more interesting question than durability on Overshown. Where does Overshown fit in this new defense? Alternatively, could Overshown serve as a BIG nickel safety?

Yeah but they can’t tag Pickens and brooks next offseason lol. Would need at least one of them to sign a deal.

Trade 92 for Brooks
Trade down from 12 get 17 and 50

17 take one of Omar Cooper, Dillon Thieneman, or Avien Terrell

20 Akheem Mesidor

50 take one of Chris Johnson or another corner, Mike Washington, Lee Hunter, or Caleb Banks

112 Harold Perkins

152 Max Llewellyn edge Iowa

Then take Kelly linebacker

Not to sound politcal here but with all the kneeling for the flag issues and Jerrys stance do you think he's going to sign a LB that likes to use his NFL platform to protest things:

from Google:
"Al-Shaair is a practicing Muslim and has been a vocal advocate for Palestinian rights. In January 2026, he drew national attention for wearing eye black with the message "STOP THE GENOCIDE" during a post-game interview after the Texans' playoff win over the Pittsburgh Steelers."
Please dont sign him.

Good call. I too struggle with putting all eggs in the basket of believing Overshown automatically returns to pre-surgery form.

And as to your BIG nickel question, I don't know if post surgeries Overshown still posseses the skillset to be a Swiss Army knife utility player like the Ravens Kyle Hamilton but that is an interesting suggestion.

It's why I want a Brooks/Shair acquisition plus the 1st rd LB draft pick to complete the LB room.
I'm not the fan of James/Luafau that others here are.

If we got Brooks, especially for a third, I wouldn't want another actual linebacker with our first two picks. I think we have our starters in Overshown and Brooks, but I would add one or two late for depth.

I'd be looking at edge/OLB, corner and DT/DE with those first two picks, possibly sliding around a little to try to match value at those positions to the pick, and to pick up at least another early pick.

Yeah and soon as a slice of grass hits #0 on his leg, he's out for 9 games!!

And people should not allowed to make comments to make changes when it is detrimental for the team. Because they do not know any better than others.
