I understand that there are risks, but when you have players you've seen play at a high level, you can't afford to just replace them if you want to build a team. Ideally, you'd have that kind of depth, but that's not reality. Overshown at his best is better than our second options at end and defensive tackle and possibly at corner, since we don't know what Revel will become or when/if Bland will bounce back from his surgery.

True. I would think the goal would be to sign Pickens long term if he has another season like this past one. Of course, the way they are going with Aubrey, we might need the tag for him even if we sign Pickens. But I'm OK with forcing their hands on some of these contracts by giving them too many players to tag.

I think Jordyn Brooks would be part of a trade on draft day, the 20th pick for the 30th pick and Jordyn Brooks. With that move, you could select one of the remaining defensive ends, and you'd have Brooks. You'd fill two holes with a single move, and they could do the same with the 12th pick.

I think they are going to chess piece him. I believe one of the things that was mentioned by either No-Schott or Parker is that when they first talked, they discussed what the plan was for Overshown. I think they see him as an ILB who can slide to the outside as a pass rusher at times or essentially play more like a safety at times. If he gets it all the way back, I think they want to take advantage of his speed and burst to cause problems.

I had thought about that possibility if Miami wanted to move up from 30. They might want more than just a 10 spot jump, though, but we could throw in a late-round pick.

True but you can't bank on a player with an injury history and act as if he's going to be available to you when you've seen otherwise

We do not need 15-16m for the draft. Where do people keep getting this info from? With the addition of the 3rd rounder....we likely need no more than $9m in additional cap. FOr each player kept a salary comes off the cap. So the gross total might be 15m but the net will be around 8m.

IF we traded for Brooks, they would likely restructure the deal or do an extension, which would cut his cap hit to about $3-4m. We have over $14m right now, could restructure Williams and make $14m and also Ferguson for about $5m. Extending Aubrey and/or Bass could add up to $3.7m each. Cut Turpin after June to save 3.7m and Anger to save 3.1m. We can do just about anything.

Miami is still over the cap and has almost no ways to reduce it without trading players. So they definitely need to make some more moves. They are 8.8m over and still have to account for about $10m for their rookies.

Exactly. Only the top 51 players on the 90 man roster count against the cap during the offseason. The Cowboys therefore only need about $7 million of cap space for their draft choices since the picks from rounds 4-7 won't make enough to affect the cap. Even if it's a little more they are sitting on roughly $15 million of room.

All the Cowboys have to do to afford a veteran LB trade is restructure Bland and Ferguson. That's $13 million of space just waiting to be used if they need it.

When you really consider options with Overshown he is a bit of an interesting case study. I could see Overshown being a unique chess piece as a situational pass rusher, big nickel safety, etc.

But if Overshown is used improperly (traditionally) in a 3/4 defense he seems to be too undersized to really be an every down linebacker, depending on what ask him to do. If he is taking on guards on a frequent basis I doubt he lasts the season.
