Nick Harris: FO considering LBers AL-Shaair and Brooks

Yeah, that’s pretty much how I felt as well, right or wrong.
What are your thoughts of CJ Allen at 20? Heard he blew them away in his interview at the combine. I know many have mixed opinions about him but he fits exactly what CP described what type of player he is looking for at his press conference.

Although I think Miami is going to be seeking at least a second-rounder, I do agree that that would be fantastic.

Maybe a third and a late-rounder next year?
Do we have a 2nd rd pick this year..?

What about signing hobby Wagner on a 1 year deal.. while we draft our heir apparent in the upper draft rounds.. ?

Wagner does have limited coverage skills at this stage of age, but hes still a run defender, tackles, experienced, and be a Sideline/locker room leader..and per UFA, he should be cheap and not giving up draft capital.

No, they have 12, 20, and 92. Wagner is an option, but Brooks is by far the best option. Getting Brooks would be huge.

I’m not gonna lie… I’m not crazy about Allen at 20. He may be smart but I also want good athleticism from my LB’s, and his movement skills leaves a lot to be desired IMO.

And I think Parker also wants a good athlete there.

I don’t doubt that he has a high football IQ and that he’s the right kind of guy… but he just doesn’t move like a modern NFL linebacker needs to move IMO.

There are other LB’s available that also are high football IQ, right kind of guy’s, but they also are better athletes. The first one that pops up in my mind is Rodriguez.

Hell, if you want a downhill thumper that isn’t great in coverage, I might rather have Trotter than Allen.

I’ll admit though, Teams have way more info on him and maybe they like him…

There will be a good receiver available at 20 and it would be attractive to Miami if they don't take one at 11.
They’re in a complete rebuild. What makes you think that they favor a WR over any of their many other holes that need fixing?

The issue I’ve always had is I don’t think anyone wants to trade up in this draft. I know I wouldn’t. Unless a Bain or Downs or someone falls but at that point Cowboys should be targeting whoever falls.

That will be the million dollar question. I could see somebody doing it for one or the tackles that’s likely to be there. Maybe. But who knows.

For whatever it's worth, I would easily take Brooks over both Nakobe Dean and Quay Walker, if all three were free agents.

Dean has talent but hasn't been healthy. Got $12M/season. Walker is the Sam Williams of LBs. Got $12M/season.

Brooks is a limited cover LB, but has proven his run stuffing bona fides over and over and over, and has just been way more impactful than those other two.He is probably one of the top 3 NFL LBs that a running back doesn't want to see coming downhill.
Walker had over a hundred tackles last year, and they considered it a down year for him. He may be priced out, but he certainly isn’t the Sam Williams of LBs.

My biggest issue with Allen is his fluidity. I think that really shows up on film and could really hurt him in the pro's. Especially against playcallers like McVay that can use motion to isolate him in coverage. And at least for now, McVay is a guy we might have to beat

Why wouldn't we want Brooks if available and want to pay him, we made an offer to Dean like come on!!!

Would love me some.Jordyn Brooks on this team..but if the price is out #92 and a future 2 or 3..is he that much better than Okereke or Pratt who we could just sign right now? All three have their coverage deficiencies but are good against the run.

Actually last year was a rebound year for Quay. The year before there was talk of him losing his starting job because of how poor his play was. Tackles aren't everything. If you're a competent football player and you're in the middle of the field every snap you'll get tackles. He's nothing special.

My question about Rodriguez is they tested well, but doesn’t look athletic on tape

Jaylon had three straight 120+ tackle seasons. Tackles for LBs are much more about quality than quantity.

Damn that would be good if so. I don’t think I’ve seen anyone trade up for a tackle but I’d take it.

Not as athletic as he tested, for sure. His 3-cone was crazy good and you know me and 3-cone times. I love players who do well on that because change of direction is such a huge part of football… especially at LB.

Rodriguez is a beast changing directions.
