No, they should get the best linebacker, not a linebacker. Jordyn Brooks is much better than any linebacker that was or is available in free agency and it certainly isn't stupid to get him.

Brooks wasn’t a free agent.

None of the FA LB’s are in Brooks category (IMO). I wouldn’t have spent big money for Dean, Lloyd, or Walker. I think they are getting paid more than they are worth, so I’m glad Dallas didn’t get in a bidding war with Las Vegas.

The only one of those 3 that I liked was Dean and He’s been hurt every year going back to his college career.

Brooks, on the other hand, is worth bigger money. He is a complete off-ball LB (with the physical and mental ability that Parker wants) and he would be exactly what Dallas needs. I’d gladly give up a 3rd for him, although I’d rather it be next year’s 3rd. Miami has so many picks this season already, they might would rather a pick next year in a draft that is laden with QB’s.

Speaking for myself, I’d trade for Brooks and hopefully come out of round 1 with an edge and a CB. That would give the Cowboys a real good chance of having a more than competitive defense this season.

In a defense that (IMO) will show a lot of improvement solely because of schematic/coaching changes, the players Dallas get in this scenario could make a very big difference this season.

With a first round where Dallas ends up with someone like Mansoor Delane and Cashius Howell (for instance), would make for a significant offseason of improving the defense.

That would be a really nice offseason of work on the defense. Particularly since I think the biggest improvement will come from the new coaches and the excellent scheme… but that would be a huge jump in personnel as well.

Just my two cents on the matter.

I wasn’t a fan of any of these fa linebackers either. It is a strong class this year at a position that usually translates right away. However, if you can land a player like Brooks it will allow you to address other positions higher in the draft. In my opinion, still makes sense to add another linebacker to help with depth as it is awfully thin

I understand we have to extend him, but look at the typical 3rd round pick and you'd be hard pressed to have them live up to his level of play.

Even if we have trouble extending we can still franchise and have him a minimum of two seasons.

Hes an awesome player at an extreme position of need. We are instantly a better team. To hell with a third and waiting to develop and so on.

Ironically a lot of those preaching value and acting as if a third is too much probably also believe we didnt get enough for Osa.

Al-Shaair is a talent but he's one of the dirtiest players in the league and commits boneheaded penalties. Pass.

Actually that's what you call a hard nosed football player at linebacker that's what you need And I'm not sure about all the boneheaded plays but we'd like that Ray Lewis type attitude He's the better player Al Shaheer is the better player.. They're doing this and they've been doing this behind the scenes since they didn't get Dean or Crosby they're also looking for pass rushers The Giants wanted too much for Thibodeaux..

You're trying to set themselves up in the draft where they don't have to reach they can pick any position on defense and they'll have a bridge to bring them along..
But I'll take either one of them but I want to give less for Brooks..

If they go WR with 11, there should be an investigation into GM malpractice...They just dumped their WR1 and WR2, why do this just to draft WR1 at 11 in a strong draft for WR's where there is no franchise type one sitting there? I feel we as fans get caught up in money….no other team cares about overpaying in free agency. I think it’s a necessary evil. Especially when you are in win now mode.

This team should’ve got a linebacker and overspent to do it. Now we are desperate and about to do something stupid.

I don’t really disagree with that, and I always value draft picks (probably more than I should). I always try to keep them. So normally I’d be in line with your thinking.

However, I see this particular acquisition as very important to Parker’s new defense. I feel like they need to get it right. So, I was primarily just speaking for myself and just didn’t really like this crop of FA LB’s.

Quay Walker was making mistakes every time I watched the Green Bay defense. He would make a play here or there, then he’d blow a play or get out of position or get a crucial penalty (hello Sam Williams) at the worst possible time in the game. After Murray, I really, really want a smart player as the green dot guy. That most definitely isn’t Walker.

Lloyd, I have heard a few times that he has trouble processing, including from Brian Broaddus who said he’s heard from scouts that Lloyd has issues with the system. Now he had a good year in 2025, but why not in his first 3 seasons? Did it take him 3 years to learn their system? Would it take him 3 years to learn Parker’s? That sounds a little like Murray, and he was going to cost a lot.

So, speaking for myself… that isn’t the kind of LB that I (personally) wanted the Cowboys to bring in. Particularly for that much money.

I liked Dean but have zero faith that the guy is going to stay healthy. He didn’t at Georgia and he didn’t with Philly. I don’t want the Cowboys to get into a bidding war for a guy that I expect to get hurt.

And Bush has never really impressed me that much. And I must not be the only one feeling that way because He is on his 4th team now. The Steelers, when they draft a good LB, always keep that guy for his whole career yet they let him walk after 4 seasons and didn’t pick up his 5th year option (in a 3-4 defense similar to what Parker will run). Bush did okay this year for Cleveland in a really good defense , but I don't trust it. And that was in a 4-3 defense probably with less thinking than the Steelers defense required.

I think there is an on field (performance) reason all of those teams are letting these guys go.

So, for me, I just didn’t want them spending a lot on any of those players. I don’t think any would be the right player that we need. I’m not saying that I’m right… but that is how I felt.

And I do think Brooks is worth an over-spend. That is the difference. I really like him as a player and think he is the kind of ILB that Dallas needs.

It would be spending a lot… but there would be a draft pick involved, which I’m not crazy about, but he’s the only guy that I’ve seen that fits the type of LB that I want to see wearing the green dot in Dallas.

Yeah, that’s pretty much how I felt as well, right or wrong.
