Exactly what I thought when it happened. I said this might be JJs worse signing ever.Osa’s contract was awful. Only Dallas would hand that kind of money to an underperforming DT while someone like Josh Sweat was available for less. Yeah, I get it — different positions. DT vs DE. But the point still stands.
You can find a serviceable DT almost anywhere. Plug a guy in, let him eat space, and move on. Pass rushers like Sweat don’t grow on trees. That’s the kind of player you invest in if you actually want pressure off the edge for the next few years.
Moves like this don’t just make you question the front office — they make you question the sanity of the Jones family and whether they actually understand how football works.
Jerry makes you work for it and it doesn’t always work out. He’s screwed over as many as he’s finally, after waged war, paid off.Why not? Dallas has a history of resigning its own to big contracts...
Yeah he literally pays you more then anyone else that has to be a agents dream. Why not? Dallas has a history of resigning its own to big contracts...
Well we can’t say that because 49ers just took his contract on. The contract wasn’t bad it’s looked worse because of the big 80 million number.Exactly what I thought when it happened. I said this might be JJs worse signing ever.
If his contract was awful they wouldn’t have gotten a 3rd rounder for him so fast.Osa’s contract was awful. Meh hes paid far more of the successful draft picks than hes let go - its something the Cowboys have been know forJerry makes you work for it and it doesn’t always work out. He’s screwed over as many as he’s finally, after waged war, paid off.
Let’s see Overshown deliver at least average performance for an entire seasonWe need to seriously rethink this plan, Overshown will be next
No, it doesn't.It absolutely matters. You just personally don’t like it.
Pickens himself was drafted at 52.
No, we are saying this is kind of surprising since Jerry is usually not proactive and often waits too long to sign his own stars.but isnt it just Jerry being stupid? Isnt this all because Jerry isnt proactive and he just likes to wait? Are you saying their are other factors that is causing the situation to play out a bit?
Both this and the Waddle contract situation were excellent points. But the real question is..... can we afford Pickens ? I don't think we can beyond this year under a tag. We almost have to trade the guy, or trade CD which Jerry would never do but might be the best play here. What about tagging him for this year at $28 million and next year at $34 million?
Both are far less than the going rates.
Thats preferable to paying him $40 million - ever.
You mean just like every other player? No, it doesn't.
You lose the player and then have to spend and/or give up significant draft capital.
Says who? Apparently you’re confusing your opinion with facts.Plus, you're getting a worse player in the short term.
The “pointless strategy” would be overspending on offense, believing that you have to pay two receivers at the top of the market to be successful. That’s patently false. It is a pointless strategy that hurts you in both the short and long term.
I tend to agree. It could very well just be a one year deal. I wouldn’t like it, but I understand it. You just can’t over invest so much at receiver. Both this and the Waddle contract situation were excellent points. But the real question is..... can we afford Pickens ? We can’t mortgage the future forever. Eventually the bill comes due.The signing of JSN to 42M per year has bumped up the tag more than 20% in 2027. So, we are looking at something closer to 37-38M next year to tag him. That's not palatable. That's a one year cap hit. How far out we pushing Dak's contract to make that work?
Merely the Shabazz effectMary, I’m flabbergasted. Never thought you’d post something like this.![]()
Its been beyond wonderful watching you flourish and enriching this forum with class"You got a pretty mouth, boy". IYKYK![]()
Sure, but that's not the question. Do they want to pay a one year wonder huge money, that is the question. Will his production be sustained? Is he over the attitude issues? Too many questions for that price tag. That’s a really dumb question. Of course teams would want Pickens. He was one of the top three receivers last year and commands double coverage.
If he hadn’t been tagged, Denver absolutely would’ve gone after him. I’m on a Denver forum and there was a lot of buzz about wanting him. They even gave up a first and a third for Waddle, who isn’t in the same league as Pickens. So yeah, teams clearly want him.
Osa = T Crawford. We did exactly the same thing w/ him. Both are decent rotational types. Jerry doesn't like drafting DT's, or D in general. Soooo, when someone shows even the slightest sign of life, he pays them big then goes back to his TEs and WRs.Osa’s contract was awful. Only Dallas would hand that kind of money to an underperforming DT while someone like Josh Sweat was available for less. Yeah, I get it — different positions. DT vs DE. But the point still stands.

Totally agree, my fear is that he'll have a great season and will play in ALL games, get a nice deal, then we question his durability again if that injury bug creeps back up on him. That's my big fear with himLet’s see Overshown deliver at least average performance for an entire season
He’s played in like 17 of a possible 21 games and last year he was average at best.
A full, productive season won’t get him a deal from the Dallas. It takes more than one year for a player to prove himself to the Cowboys.Totally agree, my fear is that he'll have a great season and will play in ALL games, get a nice deal, then we question his durability again if that injury bug creeps back up on him.
