The Browns adjusted Garrett's contract (more tradeable) -- (See new thread)

You are not trading Pickens before the draft...so that isn't really on the table at this point. That could change but Pickens can't be traded until he signs the tag. Besides, a 20 and Pickens is probably not going to be enough. Not nearly enough if they want three first rounders for him...and if he's as good as advertised why wouldn't you demand three first-rounders? Moreover, it won't just be the Cowboys vying for his services.

Finally. You ship off Pickens and you are right back where you were in 2022 at San Francisco in the playoffs. Prescott forcing the ball to Lamb when things get tight. The NFC West and NFC North are far better top to bottom than they were in 21, 22 and '23. And it's those two divisions that have punched the Cowboys out the last three times they tried to advance.
If Pickens were offered a big contract he signs whatever needs to be signed.

That's rationalizing. Elevates is a nebulous term. A 10 win season probably means a team is on the road the entire way in the playoffs. Top ten? You give up three first rounders for Garrett, that motor-scooter better be a top three defense. Garrett is the "we are going to the Superbowl and we know it" move. This team has no clue how to make a Superbowl run right now. They haven't even been close.

You are in a defensive rebuild right now. And there are still BIG question marks at LB, S and CB.
What difference it make being on the road for the playoffs? The point is, we were only 3 wins short with the worst defense in the league. I'm pretty sure I said top 15 defense, maybe top 10.
I agree, as stated, we are in a defensive rebuild but the Pats, Broncos, Bears and Seahawks proved coaching can go a long way with a few additional players.

I do agree we have a huge hole at MLBer but adding a 15-20 sack player can make our CBs and safeties' jobs a lot easier.

Even when there was talk of adding Crosby, I made clear there was only ONE defensive player worthy of two 1st rounders. In other words, for two 1st rounders, I would do this in a heartbeat.

So why didn't Parsons make the run defense better? Why couldn't the Cowboys get it done with him in four seasons of trying? This defense needs to get better across the board before it becomes a "one player away" thing. Too many questions at LB, S and CB right now. Far too many.
agree 100%.

The Pickens talk, started by Chase ( as usual ) is wild. The Browns would have enough capital to draft TWO of the top 10 WRs. Why would they wanna trade for Pickens and pay him $30-35M WITHOUT having a legit starting QB? That's silly.....

It probably won't be from the Cowboys the way things are currently headed. Probably won't be with another team before the draft either. To maximize any potential compensation via a trade deal probably means waiting until after the draft, when teams who didn't get their "guys" might be a bit more desperate.

So why didn't Parsons make the run defense better?
C'mon man....you should know better

Parsons was literally a one-man show with average to poor coaching/scheme. Even Jerry now admits he was a liability against the run. That will not be an issue with Garrett at all........

Alright man. I know you want him. I'm just saying that when the Cowboys brought Haley in, that defense was already good from front to back. His addition made them the #1 defense in 1992. I just don't see the Cowboys in that class right now. There are a LOT of question marks at CB, S and LB. I don't doubt that he would make a real difference but I just can't get over the compensation that a potential trade would demand. They might want three first rounders for this guy (who will shortly turn 31). And it's no guarantee that the Cowboys win a bidding war for him. Jerry and Stephen don't really have the constitution for that stuff. They are low-ball artists who are always looking for a good deal.

I'm worried about CB, S and LB. The theory is that one guy will "cover all that up". Not buying it. Not with the defense we just watched in 2025. Just remember, Prescott balled against Parsons and Gary. Put up 40 points. Parsons got to Prescott only once (the only sack they got) because he simply got rid of the ball too quickly. I'll agree to disagree with you on this.

Listen...I won't be mad if they do trade for him but if it's three first rounders...whew!

Prescott's numbers vs. Gary and Parsons:

Did he retire from the NFL?
He’s not signing that tag until he has a deal he wants with some team. Otherwise his best move is to play on the tag. If someone wants to meets his terms AND that team can work out a trade with Dallas I’m sure he’d be thrilled.

If any team has contacted the Cowboys about a possible trade for Pickens it’s been kept quiet. Meanwhile, he can’t be traded just because the Cowboys have a mind to trade him. It will require Pickens cooperation and approval.

I'm out for three .......

BTW.......his contract would be very reasonable

It would be more than reasonable...BUT, the Browns will reportedly have to eat 41 million in cap charges if they trade him before June 1. They could reduce that to 15 million with a post June 1 trade. If they don't trade him BEFORE the draft then it makes MUCH more sense to trade him AFTER June 1 to reduce the significant cap hit. It's the type of situation the Eagles find themselves in with AJ Brown...where a post June 1 trade knocks down the big cap hit that's waiting for them.

It also complicates the trade compensation...because trading for him AFTER the draft means you might be giving up first round picks for up to three years.

I mean I personally don’t see a player as good as Pickens on this draft. But yeah a cheaper receiver makes sense.

So if he was that much of a difference maker why couldn’t we win with Micah? Why couldn’t they win with him? He would greatly improve our psss rush but not our overall team

You really think the Browns and Cowboys are comparable? Who’s the Browns starting quarterback? Quick, name their top 2 receivers.

The Cowboys didn't have a great defense in 2024...WITH Parsons. No way in hell could he have saved last years historically horrible defense. The Cowboys had the dude for four years...so where are the championships???
We have draft picks every year too. Where are the Championships? See how that works.

He has to sign the tag to play on the tag. He has to sign the tag before Jerry could trade him to a deal he wants with another team.

I don't believe Jerry will be extending him.

I don't believe someone is giving up 2 first.

With said, he will be signing the tag one way or another.
