Stephen: Nobody has called interested in trading for Pickens

The circumstances are the same. Every player I mentioned was off their rookie contract and franchise tagged while looking for an extension. Frank Clark went for a 1 and a 2. Chandler Jones went for a 2 and a starting OG. These would be great returns for Pickens, and do not violate any “rules”
Frank Clark said he wasn't going to sign.
Clowney was traded in August after he didn't sign.
Chandler Jones was just arrested and they didn't want to pay him.
Ngakoue was traded in August and then again 6 weeks later.

Literally none of them are relevant, other than how these trades don't yield the value that Dallas would need in order to trade Pickens.

It's just wildly convenient to ignore all of the players who have been tagged and then signed, like McLaurin.

This is a hypothetical about trading a franchise player. No one is ignoring the ones who didn’t get traded; nothing convenient about it.

When specifically did Pickens say he was going to sign? And why do you believe a trade of Pickens after the draft is not plausible? Speaking of precedent, Jerry didn’t sign Dez, his last franchised WR, until the July 15th deadline.

What exactly is the value you believe is worth trading Pickens if a 1 and a 2 “didn’t yield” said value?

It's a hypothetical in April, and you're using guys traded in August.

If things were different, they'd be different.
You’re dodging your own argument. This is turning into pedantry. You made 2 statement Im contesting:

1. You specifically said Pickens can not be traded due to contract leverage. Jarvis Landry on his franchise tag got traded in March and signed a huge extension. “Teams can't trade for him because then he has all of the contract leverage and the price for an extension goes way up.“ This is provably inaccurate

2. “I'm saying that unsigned players have very little trade value bc the acquiring team loses any contract leverage.” A 1st and a 2nd, by your words, is very little trade value. A 2nd and a starter is very little trade value. This is why I asked what you thought Pickens should go for, because if this is weak then do you expect an astronomical price?

The fact that some players got traded after the draft does not then preclude Dallas from trading him before the draft. What kind of rationale is that? And what “rule” do you keep alluding to? Can you clarify on your rule

You use too many words to not say anything.

Landry was traded for a 4th and 7th - literally proves my point.

Frank Clark said he wasn't going to sign the tag - makes it not comparable.

You're not so thick to think I'm referring to a specific rule. Do you really need me to say that "can't" just means "won't?"

Your point then is that no one values Pickens as a franchise tag value player, like Landry, whereas some of the other players were. That’s fair.

Of course not, they are waiting for Jerry to piss him off awaiting the inevitable trade request
Ol Jerry has already pissed off the agent, so Ol Jerry is already starting things in his normal negative way of doing things. We are in good hands with Ol Jerry at the helm doing his normal great GM work. I have no idea what Ol Jerry is going to do, and I seriously doubt he does either.

If I follow the hypothetical sequence of events correctly, Pickens must first sign his franchise tag before any other interested party can even come into play.

So right now; since he hasnt signed that tag, negotiations are dead in the water.
Someone else had posted that no client of David Mulugheta had ever played on a franchise tag.
So that kinda caught my eye.

In my eyes It's basically back to replacing Micah with Pickens.
Smith-Ngigba signed for 41 per.

So with that said what are the Cowboys willing to pay Dak, Lamb AND Pickens?
The same question arose when it was Micah.
Same agent.
Stay tuned for drama.
Ol Jerry will set up a press conference before the draft and he and cap boy will flip a coin and say heads we keep George Pickens and tails we trade George Pickens. That will be about the extent of this front office's decision-making prowess, or procedure. We are good hands with Ol Jerry and son starting way back in 1989, when these morons bought our beloved Dallas Cowboys. One thing we can take to the bank is Ol Jerry and son, will be talking in word salad circles all about it, one of these days whenever they get around to it.

Right now he is worth far more than a 3rd. And if he balls out again in 2026. That increases his value. Dallas will not let him go in FA to get a 3rd round comp pick. They will tag him again in 2027 before they allow him to be a FA.
At what point is the franchise tag counterproductive? Essentially the Cowboys have informed Pickens we’re not willing to sign you to an extension unless it’s in our best interest. Pickens is a hostage. His only choice now is when to show up. $27.298 million for a wide receiver who’ll be there when he’s there. Franchise tag him again and it’s well north of $30 million for the same scenario.

Recall Chris Jones? He was under contract and simply wanted more money. He stayed away, and was fined, and skipped the first game forfeiting a game check. Sat in the stands and watched the Chiefs lose to the Lions. He was signed soon after and was available for game 2. Pickens can’t even be fined. Will he sit in the stands and forfeit a game check to emphasize his displeasure with his situation?

I suggest a “volunteer” Pickens will perform better than a hostage Pickens. And the argument he’s only hurting himself is assuming none of the other 31 teams can’t appreciate why he’s not pleased. They can.

I think you are over thinking this. None of us have any idea what is currently going on. And what will happen.
Only our thoughts and opinions. Based on if we like or dislike the player and / or the FO.

My opinion. He skips OTA's, signs the tag in July. Reports to TC, and plays to prove himself. He has Dak and Cede on his side to help him through it.
He wants to be here and play here long term. The FO said the same thing. As do the players. Could be all lip service. Could be true, could be in the middle.

My unqualified opinion, he plays in 2026 and plays great. Then a year from now, we will go through this all again.

THE REAL PLAN WITH HIM IS TO let him play on the tag because he wants too much, have him ball out comparable to this season, and want MORE money??? Hmmm
Ol Jerry and son have no plan they never do, I fully expect it will take another team to help make this decision for them, one way or the other. Don't worry a decision will be made at some point when the light is turned on and Ol Jerry and son have a clear vision, but it will take another team to put things into motion. Right now, the plan is the same as always, we will wait and wait and wait until it hurts the Cowboys and becomes a team killing drama show a soap opera that only this front office can manage to create.

Your literally pointing to examples of why Pickens isn't tradeable lol. There's a reason you're going back 7 and 8 years AND just totally whiffing on the fact that they are both different circumstances, different returns, and mostly flops lol

No team is going to pay a high price, Dallas has no motivation to sell low.

I don't know why all you people are obsessed with the rules around trading him.
Maybe it’s because you don’t have any idea whatsoever what the cowboys, Pickens, or other teams are thinking. And I’m not saying you’re wrong, but other possibilities exist and can happen. Especially during or after the draft. I happen think the cowboys just want Pickens to play on the tag but I hope not.

No trade down maybe
I am all for staying put at 12 and 20 or trading down from 12 and 20, Stay put and pick your draft board or trade down if the players you wanted have been taken. Add draft capital and proceed to follow your draft board with good football players chosen in this draft.

You think Jerry and Stephen actually have solid, real world plans?

They always seem to be reacting and rarely have they shown they can stick to a plan for more time than it takes to reach the next crisis of their own creation
Best post of the day Kwyn well done.

What is the front office going to say? “We don’t want him”? And what is in his best interest to say understanding the Cowboys can franchise tag him? “I don’t want to be here”? You can’t put any stock in their respective comments.

You can count on he wants to be paid as much as possible. Is it your “disqualified opinion” George Pickens doesn’t think he’s worth more than $27.298 million this season? Do you think the highest paid player in the history of the league is going to convince him to be happy about not being signed for an appropriate amount? By the same team that’s paying him $60 million per season?

I think he skips all team activities and signs the franchise tag 24 hours before the kick off of the Cowboys first game. Shows up the next day at the required time with his teammates if he’s on the 48 man game roster. Introduces himself to the players he has never met. Dons his uniform and is available to play.

If he’s not on the game roster for game one he’ll be at home and watch the game on TV. I don’t believe he’ll pull a Chris Jones and be in the stands smiling.

Dallas is full of crap and so is Stephen. Remember, never show your best cards too early in a poker game. Not that Stevie is a decent poker player by any stretch, but knowing the draft is inching closer, you can bet he's gotten inquiries... Maybe even a couple offers. Even if those offers were low ballers, still he has cards in his hand. So there's no reason to tell Pickens or the world that anyone has called. This might be wise actually. Keep your powder dry til its go time. My hunch is they might have a couple trades already sitting in the draft hopper ready to be pulled, pending any better offers as we inch closer to the draft.
Good post, but you might be giving this front office to much credit they are not this sophisticated in making such positive moves. I just have very low faith with this crew doing anything productive that helps this football team.

We have a pretty good idea what they are thinking because a) he isn't under contract b) he hasn't been traded and c) Dallas just said nobody has called lol.

We aren't talking about during or after the draft, we are talking about right now.
