Stephen: We will not have contract talks with Pickens

Now could see them draft the ASU WR now, since he is the only WR worthy of being drafted that high. With CD costing over $40M against the cap, see them trying to unload GP.

well he is technically a free agent until he signs his tag. tag prevents him from signing with anyone else. here is a quick google search that explains a little better:

If George Pickens does not sign his franchise tag by the July 15, 2026, deadline, several key consequences apply based on the 2026 NFL CBA and recent reports from the Dallas Cowboys:
Dallas Cowboys | Official Site of the Dallas Cowboys +4
  • One-Year Deal Only: Pickens and the Cowboys are prohibited from signing a multi-year contract extension until after the 2026 regular season ends.
  • Locked Into the Tag: He must play the 2026 season under the one-year, fully guaranteed tender, which is worth $27.298 million.
  • Holdout Risk: Pickens can continue to sit out voluntary offseason activities, training camp, and preseason without being fined. However, he only receives that $27.3M salary if he signs the tag and plays during the season.
  • Deadline to Sign: He must sign the tender by the Tuesday following Week 10 (roughly mid-November 2026) to be eligible to play at all for the 2026 season.
  • No Long-Term Negotiations: The Cowboys have stated they will not negotiate a long-term deal with Pickens this year, and have halted talks.
  • Potential Second Tag: If Pickens plays under the tag, the Cowboys can tag him again in 2027, with a 20% salary increase from his 2026
Good post .......thanks

Great - yapping will hurt his trade. This franchise is doomed. They will never will with these 2 idiots in charge.

Cruising around the NFL web outside of the Zone and the reaction is as you eoult expect

Fans of 28 teams mocking us for being stupid

Fans of the four NFC East teams laughing their butts off and toasting Jerry’s health.

When you look at it what is the player getting out of this by not doing this, just they're way of sticking it to the organization?? I always worry about when they do come back injuries and cohesion they've missed from being out
The other thing I don’t understand about Stephen saying this now publicly is it is April, not July. If they have until July 15 to get an extension done, why make this comment?

Is it hardball with Mulugheta? If so, how did that workout last time with Parsons? Is it just smoke to mask other intentions? Who knows?

But once again like much of what comes out of this FO, why not just be quiet?

I think it's to do other things I wouldn't be surprised either way haze if it's a trade or we end up signing him to a mega deal

Yes, I think if we have 3 #1 WR's maybe we could overcome our horrendous Defense by scoring 40 points a game.

I think after July 15, it’s sign or miss out on game $$$

Sign on Week 10 or out.
He can sign it the day before the first game, show up to play, and he gets paid. If he’s willing to miss game checks, which is unlikely, he can sign week 10 of the season and still be credited for an entire year.

He is not going to miss game checks. He will sign it the day before he is ready to start practicing.

He has an extended vacation.

What happened to this.........????

It's why I don't his long-term future with the Cowboys has been made. I think they HAVE decided we can't have TWO $30M+ WRs long-term. Play Pickens on the tag this season. Lamb has a 2027 out in the contract. This time next season, decide which one to keep

A few years ago Mulugheta’s client Jalen Ramsey was designated on a franchise tag by his original team - the jags. Ramsey ended up being traded to the rams.
I don’t think Ramsey has ever been tagged.

My memory is they had a falling out during the season and he demanded a trade.

Ooooooo if they didnt plan on paying him this offseason they should've traded him. Guess they still can. They're not winning anything with or without him this season and most likely next season either.

I mean anyone who is supporting this FO anymore needs to get real. Why even talk about Pickens in public. Show your hand to everyone in the league. Just shut up. If the plan is nit to sign him and trade him how in gods name is it a smart idea to tell the world. Idiots
Your right, but it is the jones boys lol. They think they are smarter than everyone else in the whole world !
Maybe they are trying to send a message to someone, but it would be smarter to say it bluntly and in private.

Can you imagine just coasting through life, everything being handed to you, not dealing with ANY kind of adversity, then being handed a job you know you won't get fired from (no matter how bad you suck) making millions?

Why say this. Any leverage you think you had saying no teams will trade for him is now gone. If I’m Pickens I’m not playing on the tag and will sit

Technically you’re right Spott. They never officially tagged him. But they told him he would either be given the 5th year extension option or be tagged and that’s when the trade happened.

At least that’s my understanding.
