I'm not saying I'm perfect. What I'm saying is when the rules are made clear to you and you disobey them anyway the consequences fall solely on you. And his decisions cost him money. And may cost him a career if he doesn't learn to follow the rules. But as long as excuses are made for him why worry right?
What I’m saying is that guys shouldn’t be harshly judged for being imperfect. Sometimes things happen in the heat of the moment, and you don’t thin, it’s quick, and that’s how mistakes are made. That’s what makes us human, and why they’re called accidents or mistakes. It’s not like we’re talking about premeditated murder here, but more about passionate reactions or whatever state of mind someone was in at the time.
I get what you’re saying, and they know this goes on, but the point I think you’re missing is that I get frustrated hearing about “character” and “culture” as if that’s what Jimmy and Tom Landry had that won them Super Bowls. That’s just not true—they had all the same problems, but only a fraction was reported. People think no one got away with things or that everyone who messed up got cut, but that wasn’t the case. The best players who got in trouble were still on the team. Accountability wasn’t happening for the top players—it doesn’t happen in high school or college, and especially not in the pros where so much money is involved. They were never held accountable, and they never will be. Winning Super Bowls takes great talent and great coaching, not high character or great culture. That’s the point I’m making.
I think that’s where we got off track. I wasn’t saying they know better because they know this happens, but earlier in this thread people were talking about culture. We hear it all the time around here—drafting better players with high character to build a better culture. That’s supposedly what’s kept us in this 30-year drought, but it hasn’t. The real issue is we haven’t had enough talent from top to bottom.
The point I’m trying to make is you still need to draft these players, bring in free agents, pay them, and keep them if they’re the best on your team. That’s the road to a Super Bowl—not the other stuff we keep hearing about. We all know what was going on in the ’70s and ’90s when those Super Bowls happened. We might not know every detail, but we’ve seen *North Dallas Forty*, we knew about the White House, and that was only scratching the surface of what was really going on.
Some players come in with so-called character issues, and people say they shouldn’t get another chance because they blew it before, claiming that’s not how you build culture. I say that’s nonsense, if they’re great, you keep them and help guide them toward a better path. You win with dogs, with players who play hard and bring talent, not just by preaching culture. As good as some of our teams have been lately, they’ve had holes for decades. The GM hasn’t always done enough in free agency or put together enough depth, leaving the roster top-heavy. It’s not about culture or character,it’s about talent, and this team needs more of it across the board.
Yes, I agree they know they're being followed they know they're being watch, there's cameras everywhere,
So yes they should be smarter... I'm not saying we should have murders and rapists on our team but some of these things are being judged for are small potatoes a lot of youths go through this but I'm saying I'm tired of hearing about culture and character because that's not what builds Super Bowl teams...
