We had opportunity to draft a premiere Edge to replace Parsons but passed both times

Also to be considered: Mia has one of the best DT combos in the NFL, both considered 1st round talent, and another youngster coming up who might be. Talent surrounding a player may make that player look better than he really is.
No doubt and same could be said about the teams and circumstances they go to.

All I know and what I’m basing my evaluation on is what I watched. The contributing factors I’m not as privy to.

They both could be a bust in NFL. And the guys we took could be stars.

Downs looks like could be an instant starter. I hope it all works out for everyone. I’m not a U fan but I certainly enjoyed watching those two.

I think Bain is going to be a beast
Of course, that's one opinion. Everyone is going crazy guessing right now. I'm more the type to watch and see how much he will overcome the arm length thingie. It's extremely difficult to overcome this in the NFL. Guess I'm sore crotch guy on this one!!!

Those factors have already been established. And they were still drafted in 1st round.

I agree draft status doesn’t equate to NFL success but the indicator of the perception dictates where most are selected.
Of course. However, you named them as dynamic. My point was simply that there is no "dynamic" to them at present. And that being a first rounder does not point toward dynamic.

And we could have still traded for Q while keeping Parsons.
Even if true, that wouldn’t have happened with Jerry in charge. I’m perfectly happy with the potential we now have that was made possible by trading Micah.

Based on whose perception? Kiper, the fans, Brugler, or the front offices which were not privy to?

I’d assume all franchises are privy. They at least have access. Some just choose to draw their own conclusions. I’m sure they have different perceptions much like the fans, etc.

Probably not but it could have. We already wasted one season. And only reason Jethro made trade for Q to try and save it.

Yes , there’s some potential to save it. But I’d argue it didn’t have to be wasted.

I have a hard time believing that you think that we actually would have done anything more than just making the playoffs if we didn’t trade Micah

We don’t know. Most thought with even close to an average defense we could have made some noise with prolific offense. And the NFC was pretty wide open.

Regardless I’d take making the playoffs and having a shot rather than season we had instead of basically derailing the season.

There are never any guarantees moving forward. Dak could go down again.

Now if we’d go into season with strategy to move on from Parsons we could have made some FA moves, draft picks and probably received more for Micah in a trade, I could have got on board.

Instead we failed in renegotiations then in 11th hour made a last ditch effort to save some face with trade. And then some tried to sell it as a plan to rebuild .

I’m with you on how it went down. Should have never gotten to that point. But on the other hand, and of course we can’t be certain, I don’t think we would have done much in the playoffs.

I do like the trajectory we are currently on but of course it may not lead to any success.

Trading your best player especially so young rarely is the best trajectory.

But if the trade works out leading to more success we can thank Micah. If not then blame Jethro.

My disagreement with you stems from three major issues. As great as Micah is, here they are:

1 sick and tired of teams running at him
2 him getting tired by seasons end and becoming less effective
3 and tired of him disappearing in big games

I don’t recall Micah playing on obvious running downs? He was an edge rusher not run stopper.

Bottomline is instead of trading or bashing your best players cause team comes up short you try to build around them.

I don’t recall most fans having a problem until he wanted to get paid.

Please don’t call it bashing. I actually really liked Micah and I didn’t care what he did in his spare time like done others did. I am just reiterating my honest observations.

Also, he was on the field most of the time on 1st and 2nd downs when teams typically run more

Ok. I was generalizing much of the criticism of that particular narrative I’ve heard. And I wasn’t aware of any off field issues.

I don’t really recall or have the stats when he was on the field for running plays. Teams now throw on all downs. But generally when on obvious passing downs he wasn’t in there.

I think the bigger problem with Micah is how he wasn’t used more as LB/Edge than just an edge rusher.

The bigger issue for lack of stopping the run was up the middle with weakness at DT, MLB and S. That’s my observation.

We both agree on one thing that I don’t think most here will. I really believe Micah would have been more effective in the long run as a LB full time or even part time LB/edge like you said.

No doubt but in the long run if we were stronger up the middle this wouldn’t have been an issue.

Cowboys have been weak up the middle for years. But with Micah we finally had a disrupter on the edge and a pass rush which helped mask some weaknesses but not all.

True to a certain point. The middle was porous but so was Micah. He did cover up other deficiencies however.

I’m trying to recall the last time we’ve been so critical of a perennial All Pro and what most considered a generational talent ?

Becoming one of the best pass rushers and disrupters in NFL wasn’t enough. We expected him to stuff the run from the edge as well. lol
