PFT: The Jets will not exercise Mazi Smith 5th year option

You guys are all wrong. He'll be cut way before that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mazi wasn’t a bad pick. In hindsight yeah but him and Taco I had no issue. What makes me concerned is picks like Tristen Hill and Kelden Joseph. Even trading for Eric Scott. They make zero sense.
Yes he was. Mazi lacks burst off the snap and lateral agility. He was an absolutely awful pick.

Taco was not a bad pick. He has the skills, just can't utilize them.

Trysten and Joseph and Scott were terrible picks. Trading up for Scott was just weird. There are stiff hipped DBs all over the draft, what was the point in trading up for yet another? Weird.

Feel however you want nobody complained about the Mazi pick. He was a projected 1st-2nd round guy. Lack of burst doesn’t mean bad pick.

Mazi will be back at home now with lots of free time to do YouTube vids of himself jumping stairs. :oldcouple:

some did complain
I did not at first because I was so damn happy our 'Brain Trust' finally spent draft capital on a DT
it was not long before everyone looking at Michgian game tape began to wonder. and his first half dozen games of his rookie year were pretty much exactly what his college game showed
and THEN it started

I dont think he took his craft seriously, especially making comments like you hate palying football.

Saw on Rotoworld that he put up no countable stats. A bagel, wow.
That's because he was on the Jets' inactive list every single week after he got traded there. Couldn't even get on the field.

The moment Mazi said "I don't even like football, I just like hitting people", I knew we had a potential bust.

Looks like the joy of hitting people has left him. Hope he's saved a good portion of that rookie signing bonus because this guy is on his way to a 2027 UFL invite at best.

Some of these guys don’t stop to think about what they are gonna do if they don’t make the NFL, they take the opportunity for granted. First round pick and can’t make it through the first contract.

Add Guyton to the list. 8/

I think it was talent too. Guy had no feel for the position and never did. He was glacially slow off the snap and that is hard to overcome or get better at.
I said right after he was drafted he’ll be in the CFL soon after we ditch him. Looks like that day is almost here

He'll Most likely end up in the UFL next season.

Not how I feel, it's about studying scouting reports and trying to analyze how and whether he fits in the NFL.

Lack of burst almost always means bad pick in the 1st round. Lack of lateral agility is like 97% bust material. And when you lack both? You're just not going to be a top level starter.

Guyton was a reach because he was a project pick. He has all the physical ability, however, and he has been developing. Right on track for him. Should've been a 3rd/4th rounder.
