LT Overton 1 Recruit in America disappears

We shall see, not all that excited about the selection honestly... Hope I'm wrong though.

LT got passed on the depth chart while at A&M. Plus his motor only worked half the time. It was good for him, and good for A&M that he found a new home. He was ranked the 17th best player in the country - not number one LOL. I'm very glad we drafted him - he is so young he needs to grow and grow up.
Grow up from what

At 6’3” 275 how is he going to survive at DT . I guess he’s close to what OSA was in size ?
Sam Francisco updated Osa's weight after his physical and added him to their roster.
He's 294.
Milton Williams was 284 at the combine.
Zach Allen was 281
John Franklin Myers 283

This kid played the Bandit in Alabama swarm defense.
It's a DE/LB hybrid.
Keeping his weight down in the mid 270s was most likely intentional.
If he had been playing his natural 3tech he'd most likely have been playing in the 280s.
His frame looks like he can easily carry and play at around 288-290!
He comps to and reminds me a lot of John Franklin Myers!

He's basically a DT in name only. He's just the guy next to the Edge. In a 3-4 that Edge is an OLB, In a 4-3 it's a DE. He's probably wont see much time out there when we are running 4-3.
His natural position is 3tech.
Alabama played him as the Bandit (DE/LB hybrid) in their swarm 3 3 5, 4 2 5 defense.
It's a Swiss army knife position lining him up anywhere from 3tech to 9tech!

Dude moves side to side like a cat. Incredible find for us.

He's a late 4th round pick with one full year of starting. Probably at best 50/50 he's on the team in 3 years. If he can add a few lbs from his Pro day weight and keep up that "stronger than his size" strength he has a shot as a DE in this defense. He has no chance to ever play OLBer in this base 3-4 as some were saying on draft day. I never understood that, but they wouldn't listen. Gaining the weight showed he knew it also. He probably would have been better off going to a team that ran a 4-3 but our scouts and defensive coaches knew what he was and still took him. This just seems like further proof to me of how multiple we will be. They know they will run enough sets that he still can get some snaps, although year one he probably isn't getting too many snaps and that is fine, he's a late 4th round rookie. If he can add some weight or at least keep the weight he gained, year 2 is going to be more telling about the player he is IMO. I am excited to read about him in TC and then see him in the preseason games. I'm rooting for this kid. We need some real lunch pail type guys up front in this defense.

He's ideal for 5t/4i/3t in this scheme.

We shall see what he adds to the defense . Maybe under an NFL regimen & weight room he can get into the mid 280’s .

He was in the upper mid 280's a month ago. Whether he can maintain that through TC and an entire offseason of running and sweating is TBD. But if he was able to put 10ish lbs on between the combine and his Pro Day and maintain his 40 speed I feel like he can get into the low 290's by year 2 or 3 and not look like he is carrying more weight than he should be.

Wasn’t he originally projected much higher in the draft ?
I think it depends on the board being looked at. I think he was projected as high as the second and as low as 5th or 6th. That’s the main reason I don’t like the projections. They’re usually all over the place.

Going into the season he was thought to be one of the top picks. It didn't turn out that well for him.

No it did not as he didn’t live up to his expectations at Alabama. But I can see why the cowboys took him in the 4th. I’m not gonna make a guess on if he hits or not but I hope he can.
