The fallout from the Micah trade feels a bit like Herschel

Imagine if we’d of kept Micah, still traded for Q and then still moved up to get Downs. Along with other off season moves on defense .

It doesn’t have to be one or the other . We could have had both. Assuming we finished with a better record we probably would have had to give up more to trade up for Downs.

And to afford could have let Pickens go for example if was necessary . He’s probably going to be gone next year anyway.

That would have been the ideal situation in 21 or 22.

Could have traded for a DT (probably not Q) when we had both Micah and Lawrence, with LVE still playing solid ball.

But failing that, we traded Micah at the right time. Again I've always been team trade Micah for the primary reason that I didn't think his body/elite athleticism would hold up over the life of the bloated contract-- just like Zeke.

That's what the trade and subsequent offseason decisions essentially brought with the money Micah wanted.

And it provided the depth to make the Osa trade possible that brought Barham.

It may be early, but this has shades of the Herschel Walker trade about it.

Best offseason roster management we've seen around here in a long, long time.

I'd rather win. I didn't like Parsons' antics or the way he and his agent handled things, especially the lying on the table during a game and skipping practices, but he was more impactful than any other single player named above...that's a fact.

However, I would never pay that type of money to a pass rusher who doesn't play the run very well. The great pass rushers do not have a history of winning championships. I'm all about finally committing to stopping the run, disguising coverages, and making other teams 1 dimensional. Make them pass the football more than they want; make them take risks; and make sure that your secondary can tackle and play without stupid mental breakdowns.

We took a huge step backwards when we traded away Parsons, but we have now taken a huge step forward in building a defense that is designed for playoff football.

That's a fair assessment. The problem is they didn't have a strategy or plan.

They seemingly only had a goal of extending Micah with the assumption their past (crappy) methods would suffice.

I fully believe they would have let the drama drag on into next offseason under the same methods.

I've said it before, all in all I'm happy they bungled their way into this contingency of trading him and at least getting appropriate value for a diminishing asset. Absolutely could have done a better job though.

Yeah, but that would mean tearing it down. Jerry isn't capable of doing that.

Dallas played better with Rush that year than they were with Dak.

Sort of. Our D was 28th so we were going to suck no matter what. Cooper isn't much of a playmaker, but he doesn't turn the ball over much and is adept at running an O. If he had any sort of physical tools, he'd be a good starter. I think Cooper had an easier schedule also.
