The DC's roots are in the secondary.
AND post surgery Bland and Revel ain't exactly what I'd call a sure thing.
So just maybe there's a hidden gem or 2 floating amongst this group.

They'll likely keep 10 defensive backs, so four out of 10 (at least) will be holdovers: Bland, Revel, Bell and Hooker. It remains to be seen if any of the other holdovers (Steward, Bridges, Carson, Butler, Wood, Clark or Ballantine) can win a spot.

I don't, but Bell wasn't great last year. Of course, I think we played him wrong. He is not a deep quarters safety. He's a box safety with some short-range coverage skills. Kind of like Dono with better coverage skills but slightly worse tackling skills.

I think Bell will be a dime linebacker in this scheme, but he could possibly become obsolete if Overshown and Winters show they need to be on the field in nickel and dime.

I still like Clark, Butler and Wood to compete for roster spots. If we keep Downs, Thompson, Bland, Revel and Durant for sure, then there's five spots. I'd give Bell and Locke a leg up for two of them, but that still leaves three. Probably the fourth-rounder Moore would have to completely flame out not to be kept, so we're down to two.

It’s going to be interesting, and fun to watch, how Parker fits his scheme to the players ending up making the team. Everything is going to be new so they’ll probably struggle early on. How long the take to catch on and thrive is going to be a testament to the coaching. So we’ll see what Parkers made up pretty quickly. I’m hopeful as I’ve like everything he’s said and done so far.

Why does that defense not work? The Eagles won a Super Bowl with it. Denver won a Super Bowl with it (Wade Phillips' 3-4). Other variations of the 3-4 have succeeded, like the defense used by the Patriots for their dynastic years.

The secondary was just horrible last year and the team has certainly attempted to correct that. Good news going forward.

Yep, hopefully the law of averages will work in our favor and we will find some decent players.

19% of the current 90 man roster are in the defensive backfield.

And when they make cuts, they will keep approximately 10 out of 53 on the opening day roster. Which is… You got it, about 19%.

So no… What they currently have on the 90 man roster is not “a lot”. It’s by definition, “standard” or “average”.
