He was an All-Pro last year? I don't remember that.

The difference is that Pickens is a young, ascending player. Brown is in his eighth year and didn't put up numbers that matched what he had previously shown.

The Patriots are hoping circumstances are the reason for that instead of Brown starting to hit the wall. But you don't overpay on that, and a first-round pick for what he showed last year is overpaying.

If we had traded that for Brown coming off the season that he had, I wouldn't be happy about that.

AJ’s numbers declined because of his hamstring problem that seemed to never go away and his chronic degenerative knee condition. His stats may go up early in a different offense, but he’s not suddenly going to become a better a wr long term. It’s why the Rams backed out

Right. The more wear and tear on the body, the tougher it is to continue to put up elite numbers. Maybe he can get back to it, but the Pats are betting on that when his on-field production doesn't match what they bet.

We’ll end up with nothing for Pickens

Another franchise tag next year just to show him who’s boss and then cut I’ll loose.

Even if you go by what his overall numbers were in 2025 he still grades out as a top 20 wr.

Waddle netted a 1 and 3 for this year. Brown getting a future 1st doesn’t seem that outlandish to me.
 
He wasn’t worth a 1st. But New England can overpay considering they have a young QB and just went to a Super Bowl.

Why are we blaming Brown like he can throw himself the ball? Devonta’s stats suffer to so to you guys Devonta is a bust?

Just curious but are you aware of how bad the Eagles offense was? Even Saquon looked pedestrian. They fired the OC. Judging Brown is like judging Quinnen Williams playing under Eberflus…

Pats in win now mode; which is sensible
Their weakness last year was on offense, so making it stronger is a good move; giving their young QB a top target

They won 11 games, albeit in the worst division in the NFL. Two great wide receivers doesn’t mean a thing. (See Dallas and Cincinnati). Apparently the difference is the whole roster.
 
All I know is over the last 20 years, Philly has been very lucky and Dallas very unlucky on trading and bringing in players on how the future plays out with those players...
 
Can anyone remind me or explain to me what prevents Dallas from signing Pickens long-term, and if we don’t want him after this season we just trade him for a 1st and a 2nd/3rd?

Pickens is much better value than AJ “Grandpa” Brown.
