You are correct: there are zero fans OK with them just "hanging around the rim." But this statement came from the mouth of the "owner" of the Dallas Cowboys, not the fans. All fans - including the bottom dwellers - want and demand more from this once storied franchise. Apparently, Jerry and son feel differently.

The LA rams have once again thumbed their nose at the draft and the old school ways that NFL executives traditionally have chosen to build the key elements of their team.

The aggressive and highly successful rams GM Les Snead has become the supreme river boat gambler of NFL executives by making a huge “all in” move to acquire two time Defensive player of the year and 5 time first team All Pro Myles Garrett from Cleveland. In exchange the rams gave up their talented young LB Jared Verse, a 2027 first-rounder, and a conditional 2029 3rd round pick.

What is admirable about this move is not just that Les Snead and the rams made this move. It was WHEN and WHY they did it.

• By making the move in the spring, both the rams and the browns have those players in place for all remaining OTAs, mini-camps, training camp, etc. (Unlike a week before the season…if you know what I mean)
• The rams have shown they are willing to take a big risk WHEN THEY ARE CLOSE TO WINNING IT ALL. Last year the rams were really close to making the SB, losing to the eventual champs, the Seahawks 31-27 in the NFC championship. It was clear they needed a better pass rush. And they got it.
• Now the rams have to be considered the NFC favorite going into 2026. They are (on paper) what appears to be a much better football team.

In short, the rams GM saw last year that if they didn’t “go for it” and make a big move, they would likely not be better in 2026.

And for everyone saying the rams are “mortgaging their future” by doing this - they have already done this in 2021, and have a Lombardi to show for it. No guarantees this trade will translate to a SB win, but it is a lot more likely now than it was last year.

When the Cowboys say they are not willing to take risks like this with draft capital to “go for it”, then they might as well say, “We’re just hoping we’re going to catch lightening in a bottle”. Les Snead is saying, “Hold my beer while we GRAB that bottle”.

Low risk, low reward.

And here’s the rams playoff record under Les Snead since he took over in 2017:

• 10-6, 2 NFC championships in 3 appearnces, and 1 Lombardi.
• Cowboys in that same period: 2-4 with a ton more draft picks and “financial responsibility”.

Well, yes and no.

There are a few truisms about winning the super bowl.

1. Trench play on both sides of the ball is instrumental.
2. Need a decent QB.(2000 Ravens are an outlier.)
3. DTs are the most important facet of super bowl Ds. (Must be strong everywhere, however)
4. Overpaying players keeps you from it.
5. Only way to beat playoff quality QBs is pressure, especially interior pressure.

So, it really depends on the context. No team has ever won a super bowl built around WRs and CBs. (If I'm forgetting someone, name them). The Seachickens in 13 were built around a massive and deep DLine. The Legion of Boom got all the credit, but it was the DLine that led the way. The super bowl appearances came to an end when Carroll foolishly let 3 DLiners walk to pay Sherman. Jerry did the same thing back in the 90s which led to the downfall of our team.

The Rams(and 30 other teams) have a GM who can be held accountable if they don’t win Super Bowls and/or improve from season to season. Only one GM has no such constraints

This is it in a nutshell, no accountability.
Professional GMs, like Snead and Roseman, know they have limited time and must show results, or they get fired, so they take risks.
Our GM has no such constraints, he has the job for as long as he wants.

I think the other thing that wrankles the feathers of the Jerry backers about this is the fact that the Rams traded FOR a generational pass rusher to put them over the top while we traded ours away hoping to salvage something. That makes them even more frantic to say "we won the Parsons trade" for pride's sake even if it doesn't turn out to be true.

“Around the rim” was interpreted almost as wrongly as “all-in.” I think he meant it as part of the usual…’we don’t win but if we could only have gotten a little luckier in some playoff games, we would have been a little closer a few more times, so the criticism isn’t justified.’

That type of usual defense, which most conversations with the media include.

“We aren’t as bad as the results show.”

I agree with you but that's why you have to have VISION in getting a plan executed. After getting embarrassed by Green Bay, maybe you fire McCarthy and hire Harbaugh and/or trade Parsons that off-season before free agency and the draft to get max return before teams have had a chance to spend. None of this happened to even put us in a position of being one player away, which could have been as recent as last season.
