2026 FIFA World Cup Thread

were there lots of upsets in that World Cup that allowed the US Squad to get that far?
Not that I remember. I don't think we won the group. We lost to Poland if I'm not mistaken. But we beat Portugal. Had a 3-0 lead on them. They were a team that flashed, and could play with anyone. The best US team I have seen up until that point. We beat a group winner in Mexico 2-0 in the round of 16. They were playing great. Only now, 24 years later do I think we have a team as good or better. If you can compete with anyone, you can beat anyone.

We're going to be in a similar spot as the 2002 team was in the round of 8 if we beat Belgium. We'll probably be playing Spain.

Of course it did but did that goalie get close once?
In penalty shots, nothing is expected of the goalie. The only thing they do is save bad shots from players. It's all about the player taking the kick. Not the goalie. When a goalie makes a play, it's usually a crap kick. Not the goalie making an incredible save. EVER!

A referee making a poor decision is part of the game, the powers that be changing rules as they go along is fundamentally unfair.

They made a mistake an over reaction I credit them for getting it right . The guy is on one year probationary now which I don’t even see how that’s fair either but get through the World Cup . Like I said because Messi is Messi no red card .

there was a side by side comparison of the two plays and how one player is given a red card and the other nothing is the case of Michael Jordan being alowed to travel whenever he wanted to do a slam dunk
the top players always get the calls
well not always; Caitlin Clark for example

Good comparison . If Messi was red carded the ref might not make it out of the stadium after the game soccer zealots seem on the verge of mayhem after the next beer . Cheers

for those that think that is a joke, I was in England when a soccer riot killed 97

That’s not true Flamma. I’ve seen goalies jump before the kick is even made and make the save.

My main point is if the player taking the penalty hits it well, the goalie has little chance. The goalie is at a big disadvantage. Even with your example, that's just luck. You can't blame him for not being lucky.

FIFA suspended USA Folarin Balaogun red card so he gets to face Belgium . Great News !! At best it was a yellow card .
I'm not sure this is great news. Did they make it a yellow? Better he be out against Belgium than take a yellow card going forward. Just my opinion. Now he has to be a saint.
