News: Fox: Tony Romo arrested in Milwaukee for OWI

Except he nailed a 20 second one leg stand.

With a jacked up back.

Impossible to do if drunk.
Did he "nail" the part where he was supposed to count out loud while doing the 1-leg stand?

A huge part of field sobriety tests is your ability to follow simple instructions.

Tony should have refused to take the tests - but he didn't, and then he botched all 3 of them because he couldn't follow simple instructions.

He couldn't follow simple instructions as a player and did what he wanted why should things change now LOL
And what is up with jamming him in the back of that car handcuffed that was ridiculous

That was totally unnecessary it was almost like they were trying to antagonize him
This I agree with.

Poor dude was in absolute agony because of his back, that was really tough to watch.

Yes, the cops have protocols to follow, but they could've cut him a break and let him stand/stretch out his back while waiting around instead of cramming him into the tiny cop car.

It's going to be fascinating to see what the results of the blood draw are. Smart to refuse the pbt since it at least buys time before they get a warrant for the blood draw.

To me this looks like a situation where a young cop was looking for a reason to do her job and jumped on the opportunity to pull over a vehicle for a minor and common infraction just because she could. Things escalated from there. At one point she decided Romo had been drinking and at that point his fate was sealed regardless of how he performed on any of the tests. The arresting cop came across as inexperienced and I thought she handled her business poorly. The other cop who got involved towards the end handled his business with much more tact and grace.

Whether Romo was drunk or not I don't know. He certainly didn't appear to be to me. The blood test will tell the tale. I predict case dismissed but that is pure speculation.

I can say for an absolute fact that assuming every cop is a "highly trained" professional and always acting as such is as naive as it gets.

I completely respect LE and the job they have to do.

The video makes Romo look so bad. I never liked the guy. Something is off. Had this entitled attitude when he should have been so grateful to be a UDFA playing in the league.
There are literally hundreds of people on the NFL reddit right now commenting about this. from different fan bases, all saying these videos make Romo seem likable, and he was polite to the cop, not belligerent or rude.

What exactly are you seeing?

Law enforcement are highly trained to administer roadside olympics, but the REAL tell for them besides a blood test or breathalyzer are the eye tests. They cannot be fake or argued.
They absolutely can

breathalyzers can give false positives. They are hard to beat even if they are not calibrated or the officer fails to follow all of the requiired steps, but they can be successfully challenged

It’s documented that one in three stone cold sober people will “fail” field sobriety test.

Officer statements outweigh video, audio, physical or chemical evidence when it comes down to it

The eye test? Like if someone has been crying all day because something bad happened, and then they had an allergy attack, and then drive a few hours through wild fire smoke, the eyes would be different than if someone had a few beers?

No excuse to drive drunk in 2026 with the options that are available. Sad to see
... especially if you're rich. Not only could he afford an Uber; he could afford a limo. He could afford a dedicated driver who takes him everywhere. I love Romo, but he definitely screwed up here.

That's why you refuse them. They're not designed to help the driver in any way.

But he didn't, and then couldn't even follow the simplest of instructions.

Easy arrest.

Conviction? That I can't speak to, I'm no lawyer. He'll have a terrific, expensive lawyer who could maybe get it dismissed or get a reduced charge.

I've just seen a million of these bodycam arrest videos, and Tony's was pretty standard and obvious.

Jeez. Bad look for Tony. Anyone have experience with him?
Yes, he changed some friends of ours grandpas tire on the freeway one time.

I mean, not me personally, but in a roundabout way.

I’m 1000000% against drunk driving. But his lawyer is going to chew this cop up. She probably wont get another job because of how bad her ears are. Some power driven law enforcement officers are like this.

All the judgemental people in here have never made a mistake in their lives I see lol.

Im going to say anyone that had ever drank on their life had also operated a car under the influence but continue to throw stones by all means.

They're looking for an involuntary jerking of the eyes, which happens when you're impaired.

And when you can't even follow simple instructions ("follow the pen with your eyes and eyes only, don't turn your head"), you've sealed your fate for an arrest. The ability to follow instructions is a huge part of FSTs.

Conviction is a different story. He'll get a great lawyer to fight this. But the arrest itself was as standard as they come.

Nothing suggests he was impaired?

He couldn't follow the pen without moving his head. That suggests impairement.

He couldn't understand the most basic of instructions and needed them to be constantly repeated. Then he proceeded not to follow the instructions as given. That suggests impairement.

He couldn't do a heel to toe step (or he didn't even try taking big gaps between his feet). That suggests impairment.

Did he look wasted? No. Were there things that suggested impairment? Absolutely.

The balance on one leg was pretty impressive though.
This soundsl ike your average American at work these days.

Not to mention Wisonsin is a lawless crap hole these days I can see the police are being resourced well though harassing middle aged straigh white men.

And that is probably in a controlled situation designed to test that.

I'd bet my lunch money for the rest of the year that not one cop has ever said, "nice job. nailed it. you're free to go" after administering the roadside fst.

I believe that there's another part of the video, where she calls in to inform her dispatch that (at that point) he's not following instruction to get out of the car.

When a Police Officer says "I need you to step out of the car" that doesn't really mean "I need you to step out of the car when you get through texting someone..."

Bty, during the process of being detained (step out of the car), you Do Not at that time, have any Constitutional right to call your lawyer, or your Mother, or whomever...
He was smart to keep asking her if he could call his attorney.

It bought him time to make the call.

I mean Reddit is full of weird people but there’s nothing there from what I saw. I’ve come to grips with people had a completely different idea of what Romo was or is. This is consistent with who he was as player.

Seriously though, it's one of the most selfish things you can do. Once you've decided to drink, you should figure out a plan to get to your next destination with someone else driving. All it takes is a split second of poor driving to end up killing or hurting yourself, someone else, or both.
Yes, drunk driving is reckless. Nobody is arguing that. But it’s interesting how quickly people discover a passion for “personal responsibility” when it’s a behavior they already dislike.

Apparently, selfishness only counts when someone has a drink in their hand. Texting while driving? Speeding because you’re in a hurry? Driving exhausted? Ignoring safety rules because “it’ll probably be fine”? Those are somehow different because they’re more socially acceptable.

The reality is that plenty of people make choices every day that put themselves and others at risk—they just don’t like admitting that their own habits can have consequences too. It’s easy to stand on a moral soapbox when you’re judging someone else. It’s harder to look at the risks you personally create.

So yes, hold drunk drivers accountable. But let’s not pretend this is the only form of selfish behavior on the road or in society. A little self-awareness would go a long way.
