Projection: Julius Wood will be on the 53

We are seeing reports from the fan in Dfw about the Camp he's having. I went and watched some of his reps. The kid is killin it guys. I know it's early, no exhibition games been played yet, but who else here thinks we need to keep a close eye on him? Could he press the cowboys to make a tough decision? If he can translate his camp reps to the games, we might have found a starter. That's right, I think he could start instead of Hooker. I also think this scheme will use a lot of 3 safety looks. He, the guy we got from Arizona, and Downs might be the combo we see. Hooker hasn't been very good. Thoughts on Wood?
Well this is the second time he's been in our camps and they let him go the first time I believe And yes the reports are that he fits this defense better than some of the others.. So there'll be some changes there but our safety room looks so improved it's insane like even the depth is better the depth might be better than the starters last year maybe and I'm not even sure **** is safe at this point although they play a different position..

I don't know how this defense works particularly how use and name their safeties do they have free safeties and strong safeties or do we have too many strong safeties that play in the box and not enough free safeties but I know this you're right, i've heard the same thing that he's gonna take somebody's job this year...

It is an interesting thought to who was brought in here in recent years that is no longer a fit.

Certain guys seem as if this could be the end of the road. I somehow get the feeling that CP will err on the side of his own new guy over someone like Bell if things are close to equal.

Remember we signed him in his rookie year but then cut him.

Curious to see if he's a better fit for Parker than Zimmer/any growth.
Can't recall if he was making positive waves back in 2024 camp.
Good observation. Players get better but system is a better fit for a guys skill set so often

Wondering if Woods will end up replacing Marquese Bell.

As an aside, that could set off a chain of events that leads to Downs getting his #2 jersey back (Durant goes back to #14).

His has CB agility and quickness and that is why he is standing out in camp. But he has LB speed. He would be a box S and Special Teams will be his make or break. He will not unseat faster veteran players.

Are we sure about Bell?
I think coaches like Bell more than fans seem to. From what I've seen from practices, he's made some plays, too.

Safety looks like it could be one of our deepest positions, though, with Downs, Thompson, Hooker, Locke, Bell, Wood and Clark. ... It almost seems like we overdid fixing that position, but with Downs playing a lot of slot, we had two positions to fix with those DBs.

Wonder with Thompson also able to play the slot if we could go with six safeties and four true corners: Bland, Revel, Durant, Moore. I do like some of the stuff I've read about Speed, though, and we've got Kendrick, Butler, Childress and Steward also fighting to make us go deeper at CB.

That would be the old coaching staff so I wouldn't say that now we don't know what they feel about him fact that they resigned Hooker, it says more about that even though he could still be cut they may both be cut 'cause I'm watching the other safeties just already looked better in camp in this system..

So when you're referring to the old coaches and the old systems yes Bell But he's a leftover from Dan Quinn and it might be time just to move on just because of that A full purge of most players that went back to Dan Quinn should have already been done it's pretty close..

Locke may be who most surprisingly gets the axe…

There is nothing quick about this guy.

At best he will be a smaller, slower, less physical Donovan Wilson.

But this is the pet cat, find an underdog time of year, so enjoy.

I think Clark is more likely to make it than Wood because he's proven to be capable on ST already and just has kind of a better athletic profile.

I think Bell is probably safe just because they don't want to eat his cap hit $2.3m if they cut him.

Maybe. I just haven't seen anything that shows the new staff is down on either player. I believe Hooker has been a starting safety out there. Frankly, I think they likely view Bell in a similar role that he played under Quinn, a linebacker-safety hybrid. It seemed to be a role that fit his skills until we lost LVE and moved him to linebacker full time. I expect to possibly see him in a dime linebacker role in clear passing situations, handling the underneath stuff instead of asking a linebacker to do it. But that may depend on the linebackers, particularly Overshown and Winters.

But I don't think there's anything wrong with competition. May the best fits win.
Locke may be who most surprisingly gets the axe…
That is possible. He had a pretty devastating injury to overcome last year and didn't really do much for Denver because of it. If I remember right, no NFL player has had the surgery he had and returned to the field, so he's the first. Not enough information right now to know if he's going to make it back to where he needs to be as a player.

The game is for the young and healthy.

You can usually follow the money.

It is a deep safety room with considerable competition. Bell is the logical odd man out and early in his career here I liked him. Hooker is a pretty cerebral guy IMO and Parker likes that. Hooker will coach one day. To be honest I don't know any of the projected backups well enough to make a call on who is a better player in Parker's system.
This. Bell might be cut. But won't be shocked if Hooker gets cut and we eat the 3 million.

I have no dog in this fight. I just supply the facts. For a safety the agility and quickness are close to CB numbers. The speed is a LB.
20 Yrd Shuttle: 4.43
3-Cone Drill: 6.78

Since Everson Walls and Mike Downs, I have not had a training camp pet. But I was right about those big dogs. They could hunt.

Yeah, I wouldn't categorize Woods as slow. I agree.

I saw him live at training camp. Dude is a big safety. Him and Caleb would complement each other nice!
