Von Miller is expected to sign with the Dallas Cowboys

And LeBron is 79 but is still playing, man let's be happy just for something ya know! We know he's old, but this old dog can teach these young guys some tricks! It's a win situation!
LeBron can still play at a high level. We can only hope for the same with Miller.

I assume this was a bargain contract, but I don't expect much from Miller at this point in his career. This looks like the Anthony Barr scenario from a few years ago. Big name, but the player has little left to offer. I hope I am wrong and Miller can give them 10 sacks.

Key passing and third-down situations.

Much better at creating pressure consistently in those situations than Clowney or Fowler.

Who is being released?
Need to keep my roster updated.

Probably be Patterson or Robinson.
Could live with either of those. I'd trim a receiver like Mims.

We're still figuring out the defense, so I'm good with keeping everyone for now. We've pretty much got receiver figured out. It's down to Brown, Mingo and Smith for the last spot/spots.

Have the details come out? I assume it has guaranteed $'s and means Miller is on the team but is that confirmed yet as I didn't see the details? We mostly carried 5 Edge guys last year. How many will be on the 53 this year? 5 again? 6? With none likely having the size to drop down inside when we move to a 4-3 I am guessing 5. Well, Gary I guess could see some time as a DT in the nickel but probably not enough to impact the roster decisions

EZ, Gary, Lawrence are on the team. That leaves 2 spots.
If we assume Miller is now on the team that leaves one player. Sam Williams was just signed with $2M guaranteed so knowing how this team operates that means it's likely him, plus as nutty as he is, he can play early downs better than the other options he would be pitted against for the final spot. So Miller being signed means Houston, Land, Wheat and Liufau are gone. One thing Houston can do is get to the QB. Is he as good at it as Miller at it even at this point? No I guess not, but he costs $1M per year and as crazy as it sounds was our best pass rusher last year of the Edge guys from last year who are still on the team. Liufau isn't an NFL caliber Edge IMO due to his size, but he could be one of our best STers. Maybe we keep one of these two as a 6th Edge? None of the 4 are guys who likely would play much with Miller now here so no big deal and the only one likely to be active on game day if he were on teh roster would be Liufau but that wouldn't be to play Edge in this defense. All just my two cents of course
I would cut Sam in a heartbeat, but I agree with your reasoning. The guaranteed money makes it unlikely.

I liked what I saw from Land and Wheat in Saturday's preseason game, but that doesn't mean we're missing a lot by not keeping them or that we couldn't get them on the practice squad. I think we'll keep 5 edge and 5 tackles, so it seems to me that it's likely Gary, Eze, Miller, Houston, Lawrence and Williams. I'd like to end the Williams experiment but I probably won't get my way on that.

Mims has been a nothing burger since they signed him.

I had some hopes that he might show up, but it’s been the total opposite.

Haven’t seen him during any practices and he played one snap against Seattle.

As good as gone.

What he did last year on a Commanders team has no bearance on what he will do here…..see Fowler,
I think as long as he's healthy and plays a passing-down role that Miller still will provide some pressure for us. Two things seemed to happen with Fowler last year. First, he played hurt (which is always a concern with these older players). Second, Washington let him walk after a 10-sack season because he doesn't play the run well. Then, Eberflus put him out there in run situations instead of just making him a pass rush specialist. If Parker does the same with Miller, then this will likely be a failure, too.

I’m not knocking the signing I been wanting him since college. This is a solid vet signing….nothing more nothing less.

Bringing in Miller. Is it really worth it.
What player will be gone because of this?
It will force them to go short at another position. Or lose a LB.
So I will go with they know what they are doing. Or is this another Jerry bringing In a guy move just to make a splash.

Who goes.
Milton or Howel unless they were already planning on keeping only 2 anyway.
A young WR, unless somehow they keep 6.
Trigg, as they keep only 3 TE's. And no, they will not cut Schoonmaker over Trigg (at this point anyway)

This most likely regardless of any of those other roster choices. Pushes player like Liafau, Barron, Houston off the roster. And no, Williams will before those 3.
does a player like James get cut as well at LB.

Do they go short at DB's I instead.
I agree. If anything, bring the guy in as a coach. I don't like this move.

Have to say I am leery of this move... Gary is already mentoring the younger players, and Von Miller hasn't exactly been healthy of the past few years. I think I'd rather kept Clowney over Von Miller, but time shall tell.
