Can we talk about Milton and Mingo?

I am racking my brain to remember players that showed such improvement year to year. Both guys have been terrible but they have looked great this preseason. Good for them. Seriously can anyone remember guys that improved like this year to year? I can't.

Milton has really progressed. A pleasant surprise to see him the level he is at now. Getting Milton from the Panthers now looks like another great move by Jerry. Giving up a 5th and getting Milton and a 7th is pretty cheap for what could turn out to be a pretty decent backup QB.

We never heard why he was so slow to learn the system after getting to Dallas. Those wonderful Cowboy reporters never dug into it and let us know. Mingo looked good preseason last year too. Health was his biggest obstacle with his PCL landing him on IR last year. He is clearly healthy now we have to hope he stays that way. Mingo has the size, speed and physical ability to be a useful receiver. Another big night next Friday and the Cowboys have to keep him.

Jason Witten and Sean Lee are two great examples of Cowboys who made major jumps after their rookie seasons. Witten went from 35 catches as a rookie to 87 in his second year, while Sean Lee went from a reserve role with 45 tackles to becoming a starter with 131 tackles.

I will be the first to raise my hand and admit I may have been wrong about both players. Yes it was only preseason and they weren't playing against starters, but Milton and Mingo have looked so much better.

Clearly this is why we aren't coaches. The Cowboys kept both guys around because they saw something in them and what they could be. Hopefully this is the start of a career renaissance for both.

The coaching staff seems to be doing a good job with player development.

It's an impressive turnaround for them. Well done to them, and well done to the coaches. Player development is nice to see.

As a Sam Howell guy all offseason I can do nothing but tip my hat the Joe Milton. I think we all knew the ceiling was there but a lot of doubt about if he could actually get there. Still too early to crown him but boy does he seem to be doing everything in his power to get there.

Mingo I’m still staying stubborn on and not buying in just yet. The good camp is good to see, but I need to see a lot more still. He’s done enough to make the roster imo, but I don’t see him as a significant contributor on this team. Hes still a WR4/5….maybe even someone you flip if his stock is high?

I will say this not to start a qb conversation because Daks our starter but I don’t feel as worried if he goes down. JM looks like a different QB and has progressed. Now I’ll tap the brakes a little because of the competition it’s taking place against but I’m encouraged

This should be Daks last year or close to it. It would be ideal if his successor was already on roster

He’s still raw.

JM is seeing basic defense in PS.

But he has improved.

Milton is our QB2 without a doubt. I hope we don't need him during the regular season but if we do, I feel the team would still be in good hands.

Mingo has had a great training camp and a solid performance in the first two preseason games. Despite performing well as a WR, his special teams contribution is what will separate him from other WRs and land him on our 53-man roster.

Last night was pretty much the first time Mingo’s showed up since he’s gotten here. Milton’s improvement is exciting but he’s still got some accuracy issues. He’s still so raw but definitely headed the right direction.

Milton is night and day with his accuracy from last season. Kudos to the coaches.

If he keeps this up we have a huge valuable commodity. We can keep him to be the future QB or trade him for a myriad of picks if he keeps pointing up!

We got a problem at wr. Who stays? My Lord, we are deeeeep. Mingo is proving to be very good. Looks like T.O. Big wr with body control and long speed. Now he's healthy. Guys, somebody good will get cut. We have a good problem to have at wr. Flournoy has 2 reasons suddenly to prove he's that dude at the 3 wr spot. Cam brown, and Mingo. I'm almost tempted to play brown in the slot with ceedee and Pickens.

Pretty easy

RB - Williams, Davis, Blue
FB/TE - Leupke
WR - Lamb, Pickens, Flournoy, Mingo, Turpin, Brown
TE - Ferguson, Schoony, Spann-Ford

Trigg and Mafah to the PS. I think you can try and move Schoonmaker or Mafah before the final 53.

Milton has improved in every area. That is rare. and not just small improvements, either. Even more rare.
NOW can he become a good starting QB?
Jury is still out on that

Mingo? Definitely. BUT I wonder how much of that is because of Milton. Some WRs just naturally click with some QBs.
