Can we talk about Milton and Mingo?

He dropped balls in droves in Carolina.

Injuries recur. Ticking time bomb.

He and Brown will almost never play when everybody's healthy. One will be inactive. The other will be special teams and 3 snaps a game.

If injuries require a starter, give me Brown. He's a gamer that could catch 10 passes in a game. Mingo isn't.
Mingo plays ST's. Brown has not.

Brown will not catch 10 passes in a game. He has very good hands, as Mingo has shown a well.
How many did he actually drop in Carolina? I doubt as many as you say. How many did CeeDee drop last year?

Mingo is faster than Brown. In a real game planned game. HIs speed will create separation more so than Brown, against better players.

I am racking my brain to remember players that showed such improvement year to year. Both guys have been terrible but they have looked great this preseason. Good for them. Seriously can anyone remember guys that improved like this year to year? I can't.
I've been calling for him since the last game last year. COuld not figure out why we started Dak..other than stats.

He needs playing time to figure out patience and touch...seeing the field in real time.

Doing a good job so far, huh?

This was against players least night who won't be in the league in two weeks. The Cardinals are awful.

Dallas needs to look at the very few teams that have depth on the offensive line. Yet to package something to get a legit swing tackle.

Mingo, Blue, and Schoon for that tackle. Something like that.

CD, Pickens, Flournoy, Turpin, and Brown....they're in great shape. And get Anthony Smith on the PS. That guy can fly, and he looks promising.

Hopefully we can see some of Milton during the season against starter competition, to see if the play level carries over. Not due to injury obviously, but games where we're blowing the other team out or after we've secured a playoff spot.
Good timing. Like I said..the last game last year would have been a GREAT time to do that.

Nothing against Dak....but I'm convinced Jerry had a part in it....wanting his star to get stats (including the "start" in the stat columm). But why risk it? Baffling.

Hopefully Shotty has some say in it this year.

The coaches know this. They'll factor that in.

But you can only play who's on the field. You either do well or not. Those were our backups too.

Why not trade Brown over Mingo?
Clearly you have something against Mingo.

Yes Smith will go on the PS.

I am ok if they trade Schoonmaker. Even Mingo. But to me Mingo is ahead of Brown. But I will not hate it if traded Mingo. For a player or a draft pick.
I am even ok if the thread Turpin. Keep Mingo and Brown.

Can he still be trusted to carry the team if Dak were to go down

Do we need to see more

Seems at this point better than a backup we had a few years ago in Lance, L:ance looked like he never threw a pass in the nfl before

Milton has really progressed. A pleasant surprise to see him the level he is at now. Getting Milton from the Panthers now looks like another great move by Jerry. Giving up a 5th and getting Milton and a 7th is pretty cheap for what could turn out to be a pretty decent backup QB.

We never heard why he was so slow to learn the system after getting to Dallas. Those wonderful Cowboy reporters never dug into it and let us know. Mingo looked good preseason last year too. Health was his biggest obstacle with his PCL landing him on IR last year. He is clearly healthy now we have to hope he stays that way. Mingo has the size, speed and physical ability to be a useful receiver. Another big night next Friday and the Cowboys have to keep him.

Jason Witten and Sean Lee are two great examples of Cowboys who made major jumps after their rookie seasons. Witten went from 35 catches as a rookie to 87 in his second year, while Sean Lee went from a reserve role with 45 tackles to becoming a starter with 131 tackles.
Psssst... Patriots.

Milton has improved in every area. That is rare. and not just small improvements, either. Even more rare.
NOW can he become a good starting QB?
Jury is still out on that

Mingo? Definitely. BUT I wonder how much of that is because of Milton. Some WRs just naturally click with some QBs.
Mingo played well, but I'd have to see him against starting CBs. One of his issues was creating separation. Didn't see that it's gone away yet.

Last night, that Milton bomb to Mingo was about the most aesthetically pleasing deep ball I’ve seen from a Cowboys QB in … ever! From the nominal trajectory to the absolute tightness of the spiral - a thing of sheer beauty…

Yep...about as perfect as you can get. Barely any adjustment by WR needed. ..a bute!

Everyone gets enamored with 40 speed. If you are a good route runner, and know how to use your size you get separation. That speed you speak of hasnt shown up in Actual NFL season games.

Somebody posted Browns 10 yard split and it was quite fast. That matter more. Its not that often you run a go route. You have to show up in all other routes too.

My concern with Mingo is in 3 years of real NFL games he has shown nothing. Preseason is meaningless for Mingo at this point of his career. And he is showing up in a contract year.

If Brown continues as he has, and shows his willingness to play special teams, his upside is much higher.

If you look at both preseason games together, Brown was better by a decent margin.

Mingo has been the league for a while, and he's been hurt and disappointing the whole time.

Brown is younger, cheaper, and has an attitude similar to Barham. Mingo does not love football the same.

Turpin is the returner. I don't trust Mingo or Brown with that.

Agree, I love the aspect with him being able to extend the play and maybe take off to get us more yards running than dak maybe can. Otherwise, hoping to see more maybe another quarter

If Brown can run these sharp routes and create separation, they why doesn't he? Hasn't shown up yet.

I don't know about improving, but I've seen players that look good in preseason absolutely suck in regular season. You're as good as your competition. Preseason is a perfect example of that. If you're better than everyone else, it's going to show. That may not happen once the starters go out there.
