Preseason Game 2 reactions (and overreactions)

OK...make it second half he was better. First quarter he had 4 carries for 12 yards....10 came on one play.
really? You mean a running back got better with more snaps? Say it ain't so.

He wasn't a world beater by any means, and don't think he ever will, but what you said really just wasn't true.

Look at his first carries compared to the second and third quarter....he looked completely different and much better as the game went on...he was hitting the holes and wasn't being blown over by the win.

Mafah got one carry and took it for 15 yds and a TD with crappy blocking on the way the play was called. He didn't need additional carries to be good. LOL.

Interesting that Mafah only got three plays on offense. I know he had a chest injury last week....so you would think he would either sit or get a decent amount of plays. All the reports in camp had him getting most of the second team work.

So...if Mafah had three or four additional carries besides his touchdown that went for no gain, would the opinion change?

Davis showed some power and speed, quickness.
Blue showed some quickness and burst, had a few hurdles to gain extra yards. But has no power to drive through blocks. But did better than last week at it.
Did not see much from Mafah.
Abanakanda has some burst as well, showed a little bit of power, but not much more than Blue.

Blue got a lot of snaps. Average about 5.0 per carry.

To me Davis still stands out as RB #2.
But yes if something happens to Williams. Then can any of the RB's step up.

Brian S. likes what he sees in the RB group from what he said on the pregame show.
Phil Mafah had 1 carry for 15 yards and a td. What was he supposed to do?

I wonder how much the Cowboys can fleece the Browns on a trade involving Joe Milton III...
I would trade Sam Howell to the Browns for offensive tackle Tyre Phillips. Has 28 NFL starts and would be insurance for Steele. But that probably goes in another thread.

My biggest thing I saw from the game. FOUR PENALTIES!! That is pretty amazing for us. Can't tell you how many times I've seen this team make mistakes and especially false starts. Hope this is something we continue to see from this team.

Preseason:
Joe Milton: 21/32 286yds 3TD (1TD rushing)

But what I didn’t see was silly mistakes. I don’t think any of his passes were put at risk of an INT

physical stuff aside, Milton is playing SMART.

He’s not just a dumb guy with a big arm.

I think putting him on returns means they are trying to find a way to keep him. If they can get guys they feel comfortable with on returns....then maybe Turpin becomes trade bait for a late rounder.
I've been saying that they should trade Turpin for 2 weeks now. He has some value and they don't need him on offense. Trading him makes sense.

I suspect that Phil Mafah and Izzy get a lot of carries next week.

I think many of us just had higher hopes for Blue….maybe to turn into a Gibbs type playmaker if he sees 8-10 snaps a game. I dunno. That’s probably the reason for any angst.

There is gonna be some sort of a roster crunch, but isn’t that an indicator that the depth is much better? I think the depth on this squad is better than anything we have seen since before Garrett was here.

Also, all other teams have their own guys they want to sneak through waivers. I expect to lose a player or two, but again that speaks of decent depth.

Problem is, once they get on the PS and injuries begin to mount around the league, then guys could get claimed.
No no high hopes why was your expectations be there from a 5th round pick seriously you are setting unrealistic expectations i'm longword fan I love this kid in college but I knew when he got to the pros that he would have a niche at first although in spot duty he can run through the mill this is not Deuce Vaughn..

This is not a gadget player but he's also not a 3 down back he's not a power back he can run all the place we just don't want to utilize them that way I prefer to use his speed and utilize his upside to our advantage and not put too much on him but you all are done and I love the kid he's a Longhorn hook him but I've never had those expectations he's not a disappointment because he can't be he's 5th round pick..

I was strictly speaking about the preseason only. I think it goes all the way back to 2007 where they looked organized and competent, the backups and depth that is. That is two decades according to my math.
how were the preseason teams in 14 and 16? I dont really remember. Were they disorganized?
