Turpin Replacement?

He was returning kicks last week
I believe he's the backup kickoff returner and Mingo might be the backup punt returner based on use. Malik Davis is probably in the mix at KR (although the fumble against Arizona doesn't help him) and Caleb Downs might be a special-occasions PR.

Who do we have on the roster that could return punts and kickoffs if we were to trade or cut Kavonte Turpin? Seems like Mingo and Camden Brown could both play special teams and give you more versatility on offense. I know Caleb Downs has returned kicks in the past but not sure I want to put more on his plate
If they release/trade Turpin, it’d have to be WR4-5 or RB3

My issue with Turpin is always trust. Is he going to put the ball on the ground or call a fake fair catch. I’d be fine moving on from him the league just kicks it out the end zone now anyway and on punts he doesn’t seem to know the rules
He’s had 8 career fumbles in 4 years

Right? He's an elite special teamer, and we have nothing remotely close on the roster.
And he can make big plays in the passing game. Our st sucked last year but he still led the league in kr yds and was second team all pro

Anthony Smith has the speed which is what you need to replace Turpin . He can be a return man WR and run the Jet Sweeps instead of Lamb getting dragged around . If you could get a 4 for the 27 draft for Turpin buy the plane ticket

I agree. However, do not see the team letting Turpin go. He will make more of an impact then a 5th or 6th receiver that probably will not be active on gamedays. I guess is they try to sneak Brown onto their PS.

Hot Take.....if Turpin went to the Chiefs or Bills he'd have 7000 all purpose yards.

Izzy

But they are keeping Turp.

It's not hate, but more like a willingness to move on from him for a better options at WR, most notably C Brown, and possibly Mingo too. Both look to be upgrades at WR over him. His claim to the spot relies solely on his return ability. And he is a great returner (or was anyway, is he still? unknown at this point) but the truth is he doesn't do much for the offense. He is pretty much just a gadget player that isn't very productive, mainly because they don't really use him very well. Not sure if they don't know how, or if they just don't trust gadget plays. Either way he's mostly ineffective as a WR. If he can be replaced as a returner the offense could be better off for it. Especially in the next couple of years when the WR room will probably change.
But they are not They do not play the same positions you're talking about two dudes that would play outside their X and Z they are not inside guys with speed that can do motion and the things that also Turpin does in special teams he's a 2 for one he's a bonus he got paid for doing both things and last year as bad a season as everyone says as he had he had some of the longest plays from scrimmage that's what he brings at WR Ford and he's not being replaced by players who actually would play behind Pickens and Lamb not the type of things that Turpin offers he is not replaceable this year unless they find a way to turn Blue into that guy most likely next year I don't care how good these other receivers look they don't do what Turpin does he's the fastest guy on the team unless we see a foot race between him and Blue I mean that's why you have to have speed on this team and he is also a special teams ace regardless of the drop off..

Great for mingo and brown, They are not as good as Flournoy that is who they be competing with because Turpin is on his own on what he does And whether you like it or not you're not replacing him this year so get over it brown is probably being cut and stashed on the practice squad or something else and you're not gonna like it but they did it with Flournoy as well not over Turpin huh that's weird I find it the irony here that you don't see how the coaches see a lot of these players Just like Bell most of us thought he'd be cut but apparently if you listen that is not what the coaches have planned so you can take your fantasy Football League And keep it in your pocket because that's not what the coaches think of these players. and keep it in your pocket because that's not what the coaches think of these players.

I just heard that about Hunter as well even though he's replaceable he doesn't do anything special As a matter of fact we should cut him Ohh but he's also the backup snapper on special teams and he does some other things on special teams and they're not getting rid of a guy who's a multi tooled guy just like Turpin they're taking up more roster spots with multiple people versus one..

I cannot understand in any way why someone would figure that they are going to cut Turpin, or would want them to.

I can’t figure that out. Best returner in the league and can make a sneaky big play on offense. Signed to a reasonable deal.

Perplexing.
:hammer:

And I want to see everyone's face when in a real game they think that somehow one of these other guys can replace Turpin in the return games both kicker and punter which a lot of times the league you don't see that the the punt return is the hardest one but when you see these dudes **** some punts fumble some balls because they're not used to it you're gonna find out how valuable Turpin is right now It is hard to catch the football in those situations I people realize it's a special skill set the boat be brave enough to stand back there on punt returns and catch that ball and make something happen..

So now you need to replace Turpin with a different kick returner a different punt returner and what he does on offense which he's the fastest guy in the team until you show me he and Blue Racing... To see them have a foot race you know a 40 yard dash but right now the things he does cannot be replaced if you haven't listened to the coaching staff they love multi tooled players meaning one player can do 3 things that you would need three players to replace them with that is how rosters are built..

This thread just won't die. Lol

There is a 0% chance that Turpin gets cut. He's the fastest player on the team and an All-Pro punt returner.

I think we'll keep Brown on the roster, but he will be inactive on gamedays. I think Mingo will be on the game-day roster for special teams coverage.

It looks to me like the thread is still going because many of us think exactly that, Turpin is going nowhere.

Question is, can they use a roster spot on a receiver who isn't going to be active on gamedays?
