They didn’t give Howell guaranteed money to be the third QB.
Howell is the best backup QB because he has been a veteran starter in the league. He played as well as Milton in his first months in the system. Even if you still hold to the belief that Milton was our future franchise QB, how were we going to keep him after this season? When was he going to get experience if Dak is here for 2-3 more years? Were we going to rebuild with a 30 year old inexperienced starter?

Why did Milton look good in the two preseason games vs 2nd and 3rd teamers in vanilla offenses, but we heard crickets about him in the joint practices.

I believe the right move was to use Howell for the backup, and bring in a 21-22 year old QB in Dak’s last year or two.

Milton has a higher ceiling than Howell and he looked better. We can try and justify it but there's no legit justification for it unless he didnt' want to be here.

I could even understand trading him makes sense.

I could be wrong, but, of all QB's, I think the only trade in the past couple of days was--wait for it--Kyle McCord to the Dolphins, which says more about the 'Fins than it does about the available QB's out there.

I think just how it was handled. Its not even really about MIlton.

But last year he sucked and they made him the backup. He this year outperforms Howell....not only is he not named the 2nd QB but they cut him and possibly dont' try to trade him. It just shows mix messages.

This is why I love preseason. In the last two weeks we had guys claiming he could win a bunch of games if Dak got hurt and would likely be in line for a starting job in the NFL down the road.

I said bidding war but I mean trading war. Cowboys gave up a 4th so they wouldn't have to do it with Gary. Teams do this its not uncommon or unheard of.

Cowboys are stupid if they missed out on compenstation because they wanted to be kind and let him try to find a QB2 gig....if they really cared about him they would've cut him yesterday or a week ago.
