Neither were released. Both Aikman and Romo announced their retirements in April, Aikman in 2001 and Romo in 2017. Both were under contract at the time.

The answer as to why they waited could be one of two things:

1. They were trying to trade him and nobody made them a good enough offer.

2. They wanted to put Milton on the PS all along, but waited for other teams to cut to 53 and make roster claims (and some QB trades) before exposing Milton to waivers.

Do not use logic here...

I think we would have lost Clark, too, so it was either-or. I thought we'd lose both Wood and Keegan if we cut them, and we did. I think we'll lose Milton, too.

Probably could not have signed Emari D. to the practice squad. If we had not claimed him, Chiefs could have put him on their PS.

Oh...darn. I thought 53 was the regular roster. Didn't know you can only bring 46-ish into the stadium.

When there are 22 starters...plus 2-3 specialty (kicker/punter/ect) ...

allows less than 20-ish subs?

I know Im dense but I still don't get it.

Game Day Roster: (48 + 5)
Offense: 23
Defense: 22
Specialist: 3
Inactive: 5

Now, the practice squad allows you to call up two each week that don’t count against the 53.

Gameday with Practice Squad (48+2+5)
Offense: 23
Defense: 22
Specialists: 3
PS Callup: 2
Inactive: 5

Of course, you can mix those numbers up however you like depending on the opponent, the gameplan, who has minor injuries, etc.

Troy Aikman was 0-15 his first year as a starter. That is what happens to quarterbacks on really bad teams. That Washington team was along the same lines as Troy's first team.
