Sam Howell has more starting experience but Milton has more upside that would be trade bait if he is given opportunities in games. Demacardo is a solid change of pace back. However, he has never carried the weight of a running game. So giving up a QB is crazy for a RB. RBs are all over the league and out the league.

Landry, Johnson, and Parcells always carried 3 QBs for a reason.

He is giving up the QB for a receiver. That's what happened here. There was always going to be a 4th RB on the roster. If the stance you want to take is Milton wont make it to the P.S.

I liked Milton as much as the next guy. But there were still a lot of flaws. Still over throwing open guys, not tucking and running and forcing a bad throw.

This team remains baffling. They hold Mingo, Lance etc for a few seasons but cut Milton when h showed improvement

Think it’s more about the 2.5 million they gave Howell.

Yea, it is bad timing for him to even be the future starter. But, I was hoping more time could elevate his game more and could possibly result in draft picks or a trade. The same logic applies to Howell too, he is only a year younger, he won’t be the future starter either.

It’s mind-boggling, there are about five players that could have been let go for a developmental QB.

It’s a perplexing contradiction in my opinion. On one hand, you’ll pay your starting quarterback more than any other team in the league.

While at the same time showing a shocking disregard for developing another one.

Wish we’d at least gotten the 6th back but maybe we shopped him and there were no takers. Either way I feel better about Howell as our backup now. He’s got starting experience and seems more poised. I’m not going to fret over the lost pick.

Because Milton can't run the offense. Howell just got here and runs is more pure than him already.

He ‘ran it’ better than the quarterback they kept.

A backup's job is to not turn the ball over and calm the storm when the starter is out. Just make the basic plays and play well enough to win. It's no time for theatrics.

Of the two, which quarterback did turn the ball over?

I doubt any team will open up a 53 spot for him. He's going to be on a practice squad here or somewhere.

His inconsistency got him in the end. If he had put together a good performance against New Orleans he’d have won the job. But he didn’t. Talented player but Howell is more reliable.

That last preseason game was a killer, it was like all his progress disappeared. Everytime he'd throw on the run, I knew that ball wasn't going to be on target. Too bad. Maybe he makes it to the PS, if they still want him.

Having said that I think they are going with the guy that can win a game or two in a pinch. Although if Dak goes down for the season I would much rather see what we have in Milton because of his size but it’s all moot now.

The league is beating Milton's for down. Literally nobody cares except for a handful of Cowboys fans who will forget about this in two weeks.

The rest of the league couldn't give a rip about him.

Barring catastrophic injury we are still years away from replacing Dak. Our backup needs to be someone who can step in today. We aren't looking for upside.
