Clearly what happened here is the blood test results came in and the OWI charges were filed. Team Romo responded immediately and took full responsibility by pleading guilty. Then put out the statement. It would have been flat out stupid to apologize and admit guilt to something that wasn't proven.

The moment that time passed, he should have just said, "I screwed up and put other people's lives as risk. I will learn from this and get the help I need so this never happens again." .. and that's it. That would a sincere apology. Even better, do it in person.

Instead, we get a legal document statement with his signature on it. Throw in the "that's not an excuse" which means it is line and it just compounds it.

I read his statement and came away with a completely different take. You view his comments about what led him to be drinking that day as excuses. The man publicly admitted to having an opiate addiction and an alcohol problem resulting from trying to deal with the opiate addiction. That tracks. Very common. The "excuse" is worse than the event he is making excuses for in many ways. Not even sure how it can even be viewed as an "excuse". He bared his soul in that statement. He didn't have to. He could have left that out and simply spit out a short sweet mea culpa.

Him choosing to bare his soul like that indicates to me a man who hit a sort of a rock bottom and is choosing to get up and do right to the best of his abilities.

I'd be willing to bet his lawyer wasn't happy with that statement and most definitely his agent wasn't happy with that statement.

He could have spoken in terms of a onetime event, drinking with the boys after the tournament. Speaking in terms of a longtime addiction leading to another addiction only puts a much bigger and brighter spotlight on him. Why on earth would he or his lawyer choose to that when they didn't need to?

Really having a hard time finding much logic and reason behind the take that this was an insincere response and that he should have made a statement before the evidence was gathered and the charges actually filed.

I was a big Romo fan and don't hate him now, but that legal document was not a sincere apology.

It was just a position move by his legal team toward defending his CBS job.

From a legal standpoint, it was probably a smart move on his part to help mitigate the potential legal fight ahead of him.

From a personal standpoint though, it was not a sincere apology at all. Not even close.

God bless your repetitive heart, @Reality. Everyone has an opinion, and yours matters just the same as the others. I didn't dismiss it; I just don't agree.
 
I wish he did it sooner but I'm glad he finally owned up to it. Hope he gets the help he needs.Next time call a Uber.
