FEATURED *** Practice Squad Players ***

I don't think that's what you do that is not the concept or the process If it is then excuse me for being wrong but if it's my team you protect the poor guy most likely that you're calling up every week that will give emergency 3rd quarterback whoever that's gonna end up on the practice squad that's one You have to protect him but you protect an offensive lineman in this case not a developmental guy but a guy who's gonna be depth for game day You the best guy on that squad is who you protect and it's the same whoever they feel maybe you're bringing up C. Brown every week etc

That is what the protection is for and it might even be one special teams player it's the 4 guy you almost clearly are going to activate on game day over some of the other guys that are already protected on the 53 man roster that's the dilemma that they're in and I believe that's how they do it how you're doing not protecting somebody's they're afraid to lose..
It's for the players you feel you are most likely to lose to another team. The team has to figure that out. Obviously, if a player is called up and plays well, then you are going to want to protect that player.

I don't know once we sign a practice squad quarterback if we will bring up a third QB for games. The new rule that allows a quarterback to not count against the 46-man active roster only applies to QBs who are on the 53. I think we'll roll with two QBs rather than waste an active spot on a third one.

Those other names.

Wow out of out of work QB’s Milton is clearly someone Dallas should try to bring back

If I’m Milton I’d stay in Dallas.

He isn’t gonna be handed a starting job elsewhere, and he would have to learn an entirely new offense. Almost as if his time here was a total waste.

He has to get “lucky,” for lack of a better word, and be a backup on a team who loses its starter, but there’s no way to predict that. May as well be the offense he already knows and has reps in.

Then again, maybe Milton is figuring out what many of us knew two years ago….he will not have much of an opportunity here. There was almost no circumstance under which he could have.

I want him back. Somehow I’m thinking if that was going to happen, it would have already.

I just think that if he wanted to come back to Dallas / they wanted him back he would be back by now. No reason for him to pass waivers nearly 48 hours ago and not be back with the team. I think he is just pondering other options

Schotty said yesterday that he had a conversation with Milton about the reasoning they were about to waive him. There appears to be an understanding that Milton can look for other options and that the door is open for him to return to the PS.

I am just not sure how much longer Dallas is willing to wait. Someone has to run the scout team in practice and if Milton leaves them hanging, they might just go and grab another QB.

Yeah honestly his best shot is here. He’s gonna be the 3rd or 4th best somewhere else. I have a feeling his feelings are hurt though.

I’m Inthink he’d rather go elsewhere but will realize then situation won’t be any better.

And no other team wanted him. Stunning. But for a PS QB, he's pretty decent. Good signing.

Depending on injuries for other teams in the first game. Milton could get signed to their active roster by someone after that.

Just want to point out that after some more research, I have been wrong about being able to protect up to four players. Apparently, that rule no longer exists. I'm willing to admit my mistakes, although it may take me a while to list them all.

Isn't the rule now if a team wants to take a player the team the player is being taken from gets notified and is given a chance to sign them to the active roster or lose them?

Not that I can find. Teams just have to add them to their roster and have them be eligible to play for three games. I don't believe a player has to give his team an opportunity to sign him instead. A lot of them will because they don't want to have to move their family unless they are sure it's a better opportunity for them.

How’s your boy, Mafah, doing?

Last year you said he was a good RB. I said he was a JAG.

This offseason you claimed he was destined to be the top backup. I said he was a JAG.

And then this past week you guaranteed he would be signed to the practice squad and moved back to the regular roster at some point. I repeated that he is still a JAG.

Your boy is still unsigned…

Milton did the right thing,he will have first shot at backup QB next year and i highly doubt we will be re-signing Howell.

Broaddus needs a head wobble on his Milton take. Prettymuch all of us could read between the lines.....the Cowboys guaged there was very little/no interest in Milton. Just in case dont expose him to the initial cuts. allow teams to fill their QB room and when we needed to make cuts, expose Milton.
It was well played by the Cowboys (hope we can still say that), they've now got a great QB3, who's developing nicely. If he'd been claimed, sad. but not disastrous, this way we got him onto the PS and now have two pretty decent back-ups.

Fill in the rest of the roster with street free agents and that team gets a wild card berth.
