The salary cap for next year is projected to be in the $327-330M range.

That puts his deal at about 1.8% of the cap. That's nothing and likely saves the Cowboys money because he would have commanded more after this season.

yeh, Spann has never had the opportunity to see if he could be a No.1 featured TE, .I'd think. we'd have to at least get a great sample of splsah- flash catches ala Fergson emergence, to project SPann as a No.1 feature TE.

Until then i onluy see that extension as a very possible No TE.

On a more serious note, this could be pointing toward a lot more 12-personnel usage. My guess is they're expecting a big year from him — relatively speaking, of course. I don't know... 35 catches, 4 TDs? Maybe they like him on the seam routes Ferg hasn't been getting?

Any way you look at it, it's a bit of a head scratcher though. Curious to see what people like Nick Harris say about it.

Ferguson hasn't been the same. At least that's my opinion.

But is Spann-Ford the answer for long term TE?
Trigg is not the answer. And Schoonmaker will be gone in FA next year.

I like what I seen from Spann-Ford, but need to see more. So right now Ferguson is still TE 1. And I disagree he is not about done.
But he is not great either.

That is weird. I never heard that Ferguson had a bunch of concussions. As far as I remember, that was his 1st, and it was a bad one.

I don't get the rush to re-sign a #2 TE who is a RFA at the end of the year.

Unless we want to run more 12 packages, at the cost of not having CDL in the slot/not running 3 WR wide, then he's going to be on the bench quite a bit. Ferg, at least for now is the starter, and they just restructured his deal. We also had Schotty talking about using Luepke more.
To me, it's not like BSF is some Kittle/Pitts freak TE that needs polishing. He's a standard TE size and athlete wise.


Is this a big deal? No, it's a small one. But lately Dallas hasn't done well rushing to re-sign RFAs.
