Dak is a greater QB than Aikman?

Some of the Speakeasy crew said Dak was better than Aikman and Romo. Romo can be contested but to say Dak is better than a HOF, and one of the most accurate playoff QB in NFL history, is absurd.

Aikman was a far better college QB and pro QB than Dak. No disrespect to Dak, but "I know Troy and you sir (Dak) are no Troy Aikman.
From a statistics perspective Dak exceeds Aikman in TDs. However, with a better defense Troy was limited as the balanced rushing attack proved to be an effective strategy to run out the clock, win games and go to Super Bowls.

Falling short in a statistic or two is a risk you take as you hoist multiple Super Bowl trophies overhead.

Troy Aikman was at his very best when the big games in which he started were those with the most pressure. The playoffs and Super Bowls were generously included in his best performances. He had a knack for being extremely well prepared for his biggest challenges. Michael Irvin always bragged about Troy's accuracy, saying there were lots of times when the passes he threw couldn't have been more accurate. I doubt he was exaggerating by saying so. Troy was well known for doing exactly that.

Do you want to go down the list of Hall of Fame players Dak and Romo played with? lol. This is whats wrong with this fanbase.

They will do ANYTHING to prop up someone whos been good but not great, even insult past greats.

You are kidding me right now with this right?

Dak had the luxury of coming into the league with 4 future HOFers already on his team (at the time Frederick would have been if not for a crazy illness). Martin, Smith, Frederick, Witten.

Thats 4.

Romo - Owens, Witten, Ware, Frederick, Martin, and Smith - By my count thats 6

Aikman - Emmitt Smith, Michael Irvin, Larry Allen, Charles Haley, Deion Sanders - thats 5.

Get lost already with your nonsense.
So we are now going to downplay the 90s Cowboys and resort to this? Larry Allen is one of thr greatest linemen of all time. Prime is the greatest corner of all time.

Jimmy Johnson is in the hall of fame.

But I get it. Guys like Jimmy Johnson and Jason Garrett of the same caliber. Chad Hennings and Leon Lett are equivalent to Mazi.

They were a damn dynasty lol. I agree get this dumb **** off my screen. It's a embarrassing take.

Prescott is a superior thrower of the football.
Neither one was great, to be honest- or is great.
Greatness is Joe Montana. Greatness is John Elway. Greatness is prolific passers.
Tom Brady was great.
Aikman and Eli Manning are basically the same player. Neither one of them was great, both benefited from great coaching, and great offensive and defensive lines, and very good to great running backs.
System quarterbacks.
Troy’s signature throw comes against San Francisco. and Eli’s comes in the Super Bowl by David Tyree.
But Prescott is a better thrower than both of them.
Quality post lol Giants stink though.

Hey, look. The Giants fan just said that Eli and Troy are basically the same player.

No one saw that one coming!

It’s pointless to try and compare generations. Troy played a completely different game than Dak.

Dak is playing against better athletes, Troy probably played in a tougher era overall for the qb position though.
No, he isn't. Athletes today are on average worse than those of the 90s.

Aikman was the perfect QB for the era he played in where WR's were getting mauled by the defense and hyper accurate passes made a big difference. He also had very little improv ability and he would have been destroyed behind the lines Romo played with. People forget that was getting booed in the years before he retired when the OL went to crap and we couldn't run or pass block consistently.

All things being equal I'd take Staubach >> Romo >> Aikman >> Dak for this reason, but if you told me we would have a baller OL consistently I'd take Aikman over Romo.

People are going to freak out, but even Aikman is on record saying he thought Romo was better than him. Some data at the bottom to back this up. TLDR it is an attempt to adjust QB rating for player era by converting passer rating stats to a z-score for every season, get a career z-score, and then convert it back to a passer rating based on 2025 metrics.

P.S. Dak is 38-13 outside of the NFC East when the defense gives up 24 points or fewer. Rings are a team stat and not a way to evaluate a QB.

Aikman was perfect for the team Jimmy belt around him.

To Troy’s credit, he had Jimmy Johnson building and running his team.

Romo and Dak have had Jerry Jones building and running their teams.

One of those is definitely not like the other…

Romo had for the end of his career and Dak for the first part of his career the extra dead weight of Garrett

Agreed. That’s definitely a double whammy.

A double handicap of Jerry Jones and Jason Garrett are more than enough to sink your career.

No, he isn't. Athletes today are on average worse than those of the 90s.
How so? Players on average are bigger, stronger, and faster than they were 30 years ago. The same will most likely be true 30 years from today as well. Our knowledge of the human body and nutrition only get better as well as technology.

As good as he was a guy like Mark Stepnoski wouldn’t make it today at 270lbs. Hes probably close to 30lbs lighter than any other center that’s started in 2026.

MM was better than Garrett and Schotty so far seems better then MM

not huge advances but definite progress
maybe in ten years or so we get a real good HC
