Dak is a greater QB than Aikman?

You're 100% right the facepalm pretty much covers these stupid threads.

Guys like Dak and Romo that compile all these stats but never have any success in the postseason.
There's a reason a lot of these statistics are compiled during garbage time against bad teams.

Troy aikman's three Super bowls and The gauntlet of games to get them are a testament to the high level of play that he was capable of.
He was doing his best against the best in the biggest moments not just one game a whole gauntlet of playoff games three times over to get to the ultimate trophy.

Don Meredith played in championship games Craig Morton quarterbacked a Super bowl team.

These guys were talented enough to make it through the gauntlet of the best of the best .

Guys like Romo and Dak have showed that they can make best use of their time against the worst teams at their most vulnerable and they have used it to Garner huge monetary contracts for themselves.

There is no comparison to these achievements anybody who knows anything about football understands this those emotionally invested in Dak and Romo formulate opinions based on statistics to justify their emotional investment

They are paid to create debate and discussion.
They are entertainers.
That's all.

Back in the day, as a Staubach and Aikman fan, I just don't remember so much BS discussion coming from the media.

It was a Different time.

And I miss it.
That's because Staubach and aikman were football players who wanted to win championships.

What we have now is guys who had statistics to get big contracts and help the brotherhood.

Used to be the brotherhood was just your team and winning a championship now we have to be the savior of the whole league and their monetary future.

Man, Dak must really be sucking to get a whole first page of threads trying desperately to support him.
And apparently he plays opposing defenses by himself. Because, this rinse & repeat talking point keeps getting vomited up on the regular.

It's absolutely stupid to attribute any wins/losses to one player consistently. Especially in different era's and completely different staff and rosters.

Some of the Speakeasy crew said Dak was better than Aikman and Romo. Romo can be contested but to say Dak is better than a HOF, and one of the most accurate playoff QB in NFL history, is absurd.

Aikman was a far better college QB and pro QB than Dak. No disrespect to Dak, but "I know Troy and you sir (Dak) are no Troy Aikman.
So some dumbbutt says something idiotic, and you respond, “you sir are no Troy Aikman.” Why even bring Dak into it? He didn’t say it.

Case in point!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Obviously, the situation players are drafted into matters, but how can you reference Aikman who was drafted into the worst team in the league? I'm trying to rank this response in terms of how gross:

1. An Eagles fan with 14K posts on this board for me is definitely #1
2. Trying to disparage our HOF QB as a guy who just handed off to Emmitt and threw 50/50 balls. Get the F. out of here.
3. TheMarathonContinues liking this comment. Come on man.I know you're a younger fan but are you serious?
Because you’re desiring to view it as disrespect and not in football terms of what it means. Just because you don’t like it doesn’t mean it’s wrong.

My favorite quarterback of all time is Steve Young. If Steve Young never got traded off the Bucs, he’s not in the hall of fame, and not my favorite QB growing up. The team makes a player as much as the player does. Put Jalen Hurts on the Bears and he’d probably already have been forced to convert to another position. Put Tom Brady on the Dolphins and he doesn’t have 7 rings…. He probably doesn’t even become a starting QB. That works with nearly everyone. Joe Montana was a third round pick; if the Eagles picked him there in 1979 he’d probably be a spot starter after we benched him for 3 years. Now imagine if Kurt Warner signed with the Browns and not the Rams in 1998.

Aikman being a hall of famer is a huge credit to the Dallas structure at the time and his ability to develop within it. That’s a team accomplishment as much as it is a player accomplishment. He was drafted to the worst team in the league because Jimmy Johnson hadn’t fixed it yet. But if Aikman was on the 90’s Seahawks or the 90’s Colts or the 90’s Saints or the 90’s Bears, he’s reliving 1989 over and over and over again. No QB develops properly in a bad organization. Whatever Aikman is today wouldn’t have been what he became in many other places.

So the argument at heart is could Dak have developed well there too in that atmosphere? Yes. Doesn’t mean he would have been as good as Aikman or had as many rings, but he could have been far more successful with a far more loaded pre-salary cap roster and good leadership. Same principle again: does Aikman win 3 rings with Jason Garrett and Mike McCarthy and Brian Schottenheimer as his HC’s? You know the answer is no. And without 3 rings it’s unlikely he’s in the HOF, that’s why it’s a team accomplishment as much as a player one.

Troy’s the greatest but he had some dominating defenses. He didn’t win those SB’s by himself.

and 8

What is this thread about again? Is Dak better than Danny White?
Agree and like 8 will never be worn again and 74. DW did get the boys to several NFC ship games, he just happened to come after Captain America, he like Troy didn’t have to pass a lot back in those days especially with TD back there. So, he like Troy will not have any records in the book but the records doesn’t mean you are better than.

He might develop with that roster, but I actually believe he would be way more likely to suffer a catastrophic career altering injury than Troy in the early years. I think Dak is/was always a better runner than Troy by far and more strong and able to truck some defender. That would also be his downfall in that era too. Dak looked to initiate contact too much in his early career to survive the mess of the team the first few seasons.

Also, something else that never gets mentioned is if Dak is even kept on those first Cowboys’ teams by Jimmy (when Jerry had zero say) to become a great QB? Nope-he never gets a shot on becoming a HOF in early Dallas 90’s. Jimmy had trouble believing in Troy-let alone a backup QB with far less pedigree. Jimmy was using first round picks on other QB’s just after drafting Troy.

Ive watched both in their prime

Troy was a pure pocket piss missle

He is better in every area except scrambling
This is a common misperception.

Go watch some random full regular season games from the 90s. Especially from 95 on.

He missed a lot of passes, and he had a limited arsenal. Couldn't throw deep well at all, and wasn't his at layering the ball with touch whatsoever.

He could throw rifle outs and slants. Great at deep outs. But he couldn't finesse balls for more complicated routes.

When he had Emmitt early on, he got man coverage all the time and it was pitch and catch. When the run game fell off later and there were many 3rd and longs, he struggled mightily.

Yeah, you could also use the Montana/Brady argument here. Dak was a 4th round pick that took a very specific set of circumstances to play his rookie year. Possible he doesn’t ever play in Jimmy’s era.

But on the flipside, unquestionably Dak was better day 1 than Aikman or Romo were. Maybe that was part of his situation with the team, or maybe that’s something Jimmy would have noticed right away and maybe Dak does play.

I think sports illustrated said Troy aikman performed at the highest level when it mattered most.

And I believe this to be true you might get by on your supporting cast once and be a lousy quarterback but when you win three Super bowls you're pretty good.

Conversely when you go to the playoffs and you fail you can blame your supporting cast but if it happens enough times and you never rise to the occasion or make your team play above their heads and pull the rabbit out of the hat well you're just not that guy.
So far guys like Romo and Dak that can't even get to an NFC championship let alone a Super bowl or win one.

They are a few steps down the ladder no matter what they put up statistically too many flaws in their design to get over those final hurdles.

Unfortunately Jerry being one of them LOL
So, Dak didn't say it??? Lol

Neither Tony nor Troy had the caliber of team Dak had Day 1.

Handing off to Zeke behind fredbeard? That takes a lot of pressure off don't you think?

Troy went to a crappy team (getting his but whipped in the process), Tony WALKED ON and didn't have to start.
