His skills are naturally suited for press coverage because he’s big and physical.

His entire career he’s been playing in Tomlin’s Tampa 2 defense which is a zone.

The main tweak that Tomlin made was that he let Porter play at the line of scrimmage. It was “press zone” coverage but was still a zone with but sork man coverage mixed in, especially when the offense had an elite WR1 like Chase. This allowed Porter to be physical with receivers and jam them

Parker’s (and Fangio’s) defense typically has the CB line up with a bit of cushion and requires the CB to make reads post snaps. We’ll see if Parker tweaks his base scheme to take advantage of Porters specific skills.

He didn’t let Bland play press but Bland kinda sucks now. He might reconsider a bit with a better player at CB1

I would “think” that Bland is gone after this season with Porter here.

Shotty is awful but porter is a man corner who draws flags, not exactly what this team needs. Pass rush would have been more impactful

I don’t have issue with the trade partly because as people have pointed out, 2nd round picks seem to be less viable in Dallas the other places

My concern would be both Pickens and Porter being free agents next year and only 1 franchise tag. Do you really let Pickens walk? Hes arguably your third best player after Smith and Aubrey. Or do you burn a second round pick on Porter for 14 games? It doesn’t sound like Dallas wants to meet either of their asking prices

I think this may have been considered more of a longer term investment that also helps us this season. Keep in mind that Porter is still on his rookie deal this season which means his cap number is very low THiS season. The cap hit this year is negligible.

I think it also means that there are players that are here now that we will move on from if the opportunity arises. (Possibly Bland, etc).

I will also say Jerry and Nepo Boy are burning this thing down. They are mortgaging the future for what? A Shottenheimer coached team will never win. Look at the Gary trade - that guy is toast. Still waiting for Mingo. 1st rounder for Williams and he looks like he is happy to cash his check. Draft capital being thrown at a useless situation with this coaching staff.

Porter and Pickens both need deals. You know Jerry isn't paying them. Plus - I truly think it's the pass rush that is the problem on defense. That and the terrible coaching staff.

Im actually stoked to see our FO be aggressive. Potentially this works out really well, but I am concerned about his scheme fit. It seems like everyone is a press man corner. I never here about great zone corners.
