TRADED Porter traded to Cowboys (2027/6th round, 2028/2nd round)

A 2028 2nd? I can live with that— IF Porter plays at his ceiling.

Does he fit what Parker wants? We still have no pass rush, but Porter is an upgrade to our roster, and at a position where we are really thin.

Hopefully our “guru” DC had a voice in this move and has a clear vision for the player.

With Nico suiting up on Sunday, this move can only help lol…
I can understand the idea that a person would rather had another player at another position instead of this trade, but I’m not so sure that is the right way to view this trade

This trade does not preclude another move to help this defense. In fact I would suggest that this trade actually makes it MORE likely that we make another move on defense.

Porter’s cap hit this year will be small since he is in his rookie deal and we are only paying the pro rated remainder of his salary this year and no pro rated bonus.

This move seems to indicate that Jerry wants to make a run THIS season. I don’t think Jerry is done The Giants losing their QB after week 1 and the Eagles faltering last week probably reaffirmed that idea in Jerry’s mind

I would have preferred a move for an edge rusher and didn’t want this deal but overall I have to give the franchise some credit for not just sitting on the sidelines and doing nothing anymore. Right or wrong I don’t think the Cowboys feel this is a this year only move.

The 6th rounder is immaterial to me- the 2nd rounder is 2 years away, if the eagles or another team made this move we would say compensation wise they did very well.
I think he’s a top 10 corner- not a top 5 one and the contract situation is dicey but while I did not want him at all- the hand wringing here is a bit much.

You're right...if only there was a time when we could've addressed it earlier....

like a time before the season starts and before the draft where you don't have to trade for someone, you can just pay them money to come here....

That would be the perfect opportunity to get a game changer...but man guess that doesn't exist huh?
This is one instance where Jerry and Co probably benefitted from waiting. The price likely came down due to Porter sitting out the first three games of the season. Plus 3/17 of his salary this season was paid by the Steelers.

We were going to draft a corner high anyway which is a mixed bag for us. I’m fine with getting proven players in their prime.

Love GP, but if we can trade him away for a high pick or two and go into the ‘27 draft with multiple first and second day picks I’m totally fine with that. Yes having two elite WR’s is great, but that’s never been a consistent SB formula.

I’ll take a top 10 defense with Dak,CD,Flo and take our chances drafting a WR (which we do well) or signing another good WR2.

Look at all the trades, it is for players that don't want to extend.
Have to net the cost between the comp given and the compensatory picks if they leave and get a contract- thats the more fair way to look, and hobrstly its not bad

I do think the Cowboys have earmarked a trade for a pass rusher at some point. Think they want to give their young prospects a long leash first, adding Miller was a move to help their development.

It's a win/win for both teams. Steelers are getting more compensation for players that are expected to sign elsewhere and the Cowboys are filling important needs. Add in MM now, I think there is even more of a chance we continue to do business with them.

Yeah I think the raiders need to start doing raiders things. Them being 3-0 is messing up our plans. KC should get the ball rolling.

That 2nd in 2 drafts is like 3rd this year, maybe even a 4th.

The 6th, come on. This is a good trade for us.

The contract is the whole thing. What we going to pay Porter.

We got good talent for those picks. He's probably our #1 CB now.

Makes sense why we weren't bringing anyone in for a look-see at CB.

You would think prior to this trade either corner or tackle were the top two positions they would be targeting in the draft.

I think the other thing we all should consider, Cowboys have been historically bad selecting players in the 2nd rd, getting a proven player makes sense.

That's no helping, at some point we will start to see start to look for next year.
