Cody Alexander is a defensive systems expert and here he talks about now JPJ is Parker’s boundary corner who can unlock the defense.

He breaks down how the defense needs at least one man corner to make the coverage scheme work.

There’s also info on how this impacts Bland as an off-ball, trap CB, and not a boundary corner or a zone corner. Interesting to hear.

He also talks about JPJs opportunities, specifically in run support and tackling, so those looking for a practical take or a criticism, that’s here too.

When Bob Sturm says someone has taught him something about defensive schemes, I try to listen.

That is very interesting -- most of the analysts said that Porter wouldn't fit in our system because it is zone heavy. However, having one side of the field covered in man while the rest of the field is in zone is going to reduce the area you have to deal with in zone -- that seems like it is going to make for fewer holes in the zone.

That’s because most analysis, are Tunnel vision

I remember Deion Sanders, in the same exact situation
Just follow the best receiver all over the field, and everybody else is doing their own thing,
Whether they’re playing Man, or whether they’re playing zone,
Dion was covering the best receiver, one on one

Porter can play zone just fine. But he's better in man. He is one of the few corners in the league who can actually play man effectively.

Anyone who believes a defense should be built from the secondary forward is a tool and yes that includes CP if he actually believes this

Deion Sanders
You obviously don’t remember Deion or you never bring him up with JPJ

Love Cody

Reading the title I quickly envisioned a cheap school locker combination padlock......they crumble easily when hit hard

Excellent interview. Very informative about things I never considered. Thanks for posting it.

I'm not going to pretend to be any kind of defensive expert, but is CP using a few players in roles that aren't what they're best at? Like, does Caleb Downs need to be more used as a true safety? I've seen some of you say Overshown is being played out of position. I am genuinely asking the people who are way more knowledgeable than me (which is most.of you).

I think Overshown would be suited for Winters role.Caleb is playing the exact spot he is best suited for.

Think about it like this.

If you can’t build from the front 7 out, this is the best alternative.

Sure, they should have just ponied up the money and brought in a guy like Hendrickson instead of listening to Parker’s crap about manufacturing a pass rush, but this is where Dallas is at.
