I would bet that Dak made that throw tons of time in practice and in games, I have even seen it! But, why not this time I will never know. smh
Because he played it safe knowing they could tie it with a FG.

Playing it safe has been his MO since day one.

Pickens would have had to be standing there with nobody within ten yards before Dak took the shot.

I feel you guys are focusing too much on the the play and on Pickens and Dak. This thread is about Schotty. Schotty said in his presser that he told Dak to throw it away. Everything else is speculation. Would it have been a flag in GP? Who knows, that’s speculation. Could Dak have made the throw, speculation.

It is concrete black and white that Schotty said he coached Dak to throw the ball away. So the poll of this thread is if you’re the coach what do you tell Dak?

My main issue with this whole situation is if it’s true that Schotty told Dak to throw it away then why? If Milton was playing then it’s maybe acceptable to coach the QB to throw it away. But when the greatest QB in Dallas Cowboys history (according to some) is told to throw the ball away what does that say about Schotty’s coaching? His relationship and trust with Dak? And/or his competency to manage a game and understand the ebbs and flows of a game?

I said this after the game and 6 days later I’m still stuck on it. If Schotty told Dak to throw it away we are in far more trouble as a team than if Dak missed the throw or missed the read.
Earlier in the game, Pickens was covered like a blanket, same situation basically, but the game wasn’t on the line
Dak through the ball before
Pickens ever got open, that’s what I see, it was like simultaneous
Now did he do it on purpose, or was he instructed to do so,, at this point, it doesn’t really matter, we lost . It would still be nice to understand what happened

That assumes Schnotty actually told Dak to chunk it to the moon.

Did he really say it? We'll never know.... so you're left with believing Schnotty actually said that to Dak, and I have a feeling that might not be accurate.
Coaches commonly say "if it's not there...throw it away".

No coach would just say throw it away...they could just have the QB take a knee if they didn't want to run a play.

People are overlooking the pass rushers being blocked by the RT and RG.
- The pass rushers and blockers are directly in the path of where the pass needed to go.
- The RT's back is almost touching Dak at the point he releases the ball.

On the video, you can tell Dak was mad about the call and even had more to say when he went over to the bench.
People keep telling me I shouldn't use judgement and trust what my eyes are telling me on Video. But what you are claiming Dak being mad when he went over to the bench, I'm guessing happens around 19:36 of the highlight footage below. That looks more to me him realizing that he had an open guy, and if only he waited a bit more. But does he have a right to be mad if he is not a leader of this team and just follows the playcall?

He’s the leader on offense, I don’t know who it is on defense yet
Quarterback is such a valuable position that they are leaders of the entire team, not just offense. They're just below the head coach in the the leadership role and nobody would blame a QB if he talked to the defense as well saying something like, "look guys we got to focus and we will win this" or some inspirational thing. We traded away our leader on defense.

That’s what I saw, if you slow it down, he was covered, by the time the ball was in the air. Pickens broke free.
Was Dack throwing it away anyways, that’s what I don’t know
And if it helps earlier in the game, the same situation , Pickens was covered like a blanket
No this is what he said after the game he was instructed if you hit your back foot meaning whether he was on a three or seven drop if it's not there throw it away it wasn't there he's saying he should have stayed on his back foot for an extra second given the hindsight that George became open That's what he said so no he wasn't instructed to throw it away right away if it wasn't there as soon as he hit his back foot because of time restraints to throw it away then he was not open right when he looked over there unfortunately we're in hindsight it's after the game tomorrow's Houston let's just move on to Houston.

I’m

in the locker room, probably I’ll agree with that
Game day, I think they pretty much stay to their respected side of the football
I can’t remember a quarterback, going over to the defense during a game and giving instructions
Maybe confidence a pat on the back like go get them guys or something, but
Yes, I understand your point

Not at all, quite a few people don't buy that Schotty told dak to throw it away. Some argue that he probably told Dak to throw it away if there is nothing there. Answer this, why tell Dak to throw it away if you can just go for three on 3rd down?

I’m in New England, I cannot get the game, and stream east, doesn’t work anymore,

People have reviewed that video repeatedly and noticed the referee looked ready to throw the flag if the pass had gone to Pickens, so in the end, it’s all moot.

MOOT!
Pre-apologies for the clip visual quality but it is not easy creating large animated gifs avoid having a significant drain on the site. I understand that you have included other peoples' opinions in your conclusion. That said, I would like your opinion of exactly when do you see either the field judge or side judge made any motion towards reaching for their flags:

They were not playing for the tie because they were playing to win the game but they knew they needed more time than 7 seconds And we're gonna give George a chance to get open early and he didn't george had to push off like usual he doesn't get open that often unless he's physical.
Ya, no
If they were playing to win it in regulation

Shotty would've never said: throw it away
Unless he was then prepared to go for a td on 4th down also
.....which he didnt

For the same reason kick the ball into the end zone, rather than in the field of play .and let the clock run down, because are head coach is freaking dizzy

And?
Regardless of whether he pushed off or not Dak should have thrown that ball to him.
If they throw a flag then they throw a flag and we kick the FG.
Just throwing it away there was a wasted play. You play to win, not tie.
It matters a lot because of time on the clock and now it moves back and they kick the field goal anyway that's why it matters because then they would have kicked the field goal anyway do you not understand they would have kicked the field goal anyway There was too many factors that went into this it matters not regardless No you shouldn't have you'd have lost the game possibly on that if the time would have ran out but anyway wouldn't have been regardless if we had to kick the field goal so no he was instructed that he hit his back foot if it wasn't open throw it away it wasn't open he threw it away it was open too late it might have been simultaneously that's not how it works when you're trying to make sure you manage the clock.. So there you go i'm not doing this anymore we play in Houston tomorrow you're wrong they were right they played the game you're in hindsight No you don't always play to win You play to win it in overtime You're also playing that if you tie the game that your team isn't immediately gonna give up a bad kickoff and an easy non contested long field goal that also could have been blocked we could play this what if game all day no you don't always play to win the game part of the game is getting a tie and you have overtime overtime is the game is part of the game it is in every game I don't understand where you don't know that's not part of the NFL You don't always play the friggin win who the hell are you some strategy is if you can tie the game you do it because losing a game when you could have tied it and had 15 more minutes to try to win it that's where the game is the game within the game is part of the game you keep saying game like everybody plays it doesn't care if they lose on that play when they had a chance to tie it and extend the damn game and I said game 17 Times Now you get the NFL game is part of overtime overtime is part of the NFL game it's part of the strategy If not there'd be no overtime Oh my God some of you guys are just odd..

Well, the coach said himself, he told Prescott to throw it away, so you’re calling the coach a liar

No they're wrong and I'm tired of this conversation let it go tomorrow is a Houston game we shouldn't be having this discussion anymore and it's OK that you're wrong they would have loved to throw it if it was open it wasn't open immediately they didn't want to waste time take a sack had the clock run out have something weird happen it was a smart strategy to not lose at that moment The rest of it the bad kickoff allowing an easy reception and field goal that is all part of it has nothing to do with Schottenheimer nothing to do with Dak and that's why they lost not because they tied bye bye..

love to know where you got that crazy thought about the officials getting ready to throw the flag.
