The defense still sucks

Yes the defense still sucks. It’s still fatally flawed to prevent any type of superbowl competitiveness this season.

I’m just hoping to see progress and them to make the playoffs this year.

We need a pass rush in the worst way. I don't even know of that's enough though.

Only 2 teams in the NFL are allowing more yards per game.

Only 4 teams are allowing more points per game.

13 teams are holding opponents to 21 points or less per game.
We're actually not the worst? Oh, I can sleep at night now.

People may or may not see it. But this defense is progressing nicely. It’s coming along. I’ll admit I wish it was a bit more rapid. But progress is progress and I’m happy w what I’m seeing lately. By no means is it perfect but it’s progressing
This defense was going to take 4 or 5 games to come together. Thats if they were healthy and CP showed his supposed genius.

We have not been healthy. Secondary has been decimated. Overshown hurt yet again. Bullard out.

And CP looks lost and in way over his head. Offenses have his scheme figured out and yet he keeps doing the same things.

We'll see. Get healthy the next couple weeks. Porter to the mix. CP starts earning his genius hype.

Dallas running this 3-4 defense is not going to elevate this unit to top 12 inthe league. 3 vs 5 is not going to generate pressure and QBs are going to have time in the pocket. Once we come to grips with this the better. At this point, Dallas has to communicate on the backend and keep everything in front of them on a bend but don't break fashion. Loved and felt an about time relief that CP called some blitzes to rush Stroud on key downs.

End of the day, Defense started out shaky with the status quo but got 3 & out stops in the 2nd half yesterday which wasn't the case against other running QBs this season. I like our chances against pocket QBs but running QBs scare me against this defense. Mixed bag of nuts for sure but Dallas won and we live to compete another week.

I see it as two:
Defensive Metric2025 Full Season (17 Games)2026 First 4 Games
Points Per Game (PPG)30.1 PPG (32nd in NFL)28.00 PPG (25th)

But we're giving up more total yards per game and more rushing yards per game.
I only compared the first 4 games of both seasons. Well ai did

Yes, it definitely still sucks...but in between the suckage for the past 2 weeks, there have been glimpses of things that give hope it will continue to improve.

The Bal game they actually did a respectable job on Henry, 27 carries for 89 yards is good against him, and had a couple of 4th and 1's that they shut down. I don't think they stopped a 4th and 1 last year ever. Felt that way anyway...Bad news was Jackson does what he does and broke contain multiple times for big gains.

This game they were getting pretty consistent pressure and even had 2 sacks and forced several punts. JPJ pretty much locked down whoever he covered. 30 points still sucks, though.

So yeah, overall it's still pretty ugly, but at least they are starting to put on some makeup.

Problem is, we really run a 5-2. And just tell the 5 to stay in their lanes and rush straight ahead.

Barham and Winters are not great coverage guys.

Then we play a soft zone behind.

Offenses play action and pass to the flats where TEs just run free. With Gary or Eze trying to chase them down from behind.

We dont have 3-4 outside lbs. We have 4-3 defensive ends pretending to be.

And outside of Barham, whos a run stopper only at this point, we dont have any coverage LBs.

Not to mention our DTs arent being used properly. QW has the ability to dominate. But it looks like he simply bull rushes every play. No games, no stunts. We did actually see a couple blitzes from CP yesterday which was refreshing.

CP needs to reevaluate his scheme around what he knows he has now.

The Cowboys back field just doesn't get it . Playing off the receivers by 10 yards , always out of position , blown coverage . Are these guys that stupid or is it Parker ? Bell and Bland suck big time . Hopefully , when the starters are back from injury , these two guys will be on the bench , never to play another down .

Look at the NFL.

Every game teams have at least 20 points before the half.

There are no good defensive teams.

The days of 10-3 games is over and the League wants it this way.

More points = more viewers = more money.

I’m sure you’re objective, and you actually know what you’re talking about, as you have a Jerry clown face as your avatar.
Are you joking? 10 out of 28 teams didn’t put up more than 20 points in the entire game yesterday.

Another game... another 30 points allowed.

Thirty points to a very average Texans offense — the same Texans offense that scored 6 against the Bengals and 17 against the Colts.

Once again, the defense gave up a long, late fourth-quarter drive to surrender the lead, forcing the offense to go back down the field and either retake the lead or win the game. Then, with seconds left and Houston out of timeouts, they still allowed them to get into position for a legitimate Hail Mary attempt that nearly connected.

And on the final play, the DB tried to catch the ball instead of simply knocking it down. Just stupid football.

I’m very, very happy we won, and we have a few more winnable games coming up here. But with a defense playing like this, we can’t count on anything.
We are not going to find any success with this approach. One week we lost to Ravens. This week we beat Texans. It tends to even out.

And with this defense even if we make it tonplayoffs, it's first round exit. Playoffs is about better defenses and making stops.

No, not unaware. I just don't think he's worth 24 or 13 points.

Are you aware those previous two games were vs the Bengals and Colts. Not exactly teams knows for playing great defense this season.
You can look up the numbers for yourself.

In two games with Nico Collins, the Texans scored 30 points or more.

In two games without Nico Collins, the Texans scored 17 and 6 points.

The numbers speak for themselves. But if you choose to willfully ignore them, that’s your choice.

Cowboys defense is 29th, hey they improved from 31st last year. Congrats to Parker et al.

Nico Collin’s is criminally underrated by fans but the answer here is somewhere in between. Significantly stronger number with Nico, but also we have to acknowledge that Houston played better defenses without him as well

Don't mess with the narrative

The defense is improving and should continue to improve.
